Diplomacy-Tech Cheapness

I'm sure your all aware that if you're very good at research, you can give yourself a ton of diplomacy techs, among other things, and sell low techs for a huge profit. I notice that t gets harder and costlier to build facilities as their sophistication goes up, so how about this, trade improvements like banking, farming, morale, just not manufacturing or research to a civ that is about 2-3 levels behind. I.E. sell them banking, then stock exchanges when they're building Adv. markets with Plain Factories. From what Ive been able to see from my espionage, they'll have to switch to the new building if they want anything at all, and since their infrastructure is so low it will take them forever. not to mention the fact that they spent all their dough on your inventions, meaning they have no way to bootstrap themselves up. I dunno just seemed to me to be a good way to keep the AI chasing it's own tail for a while in case you wanted to invade or something. Plus the planets would be set up in better shape once you start cutting into the core worlds that have the time and infrastructure to maybe build one or two of the buildings. I'm still mystified by how the AI can dominate economically and infrastructurally, so does anyone see any problems with this?

Your post falls totally apart at the end. What does your last sentence have to do with everything else? Also as far as selling techs, at higher level it is more difficult to do. And the new release will have an option to disable tech trading.

Yes teh AI can dominate you economcially if they don't have to research anything. Their research slider is probably at 0 the whole game, you jsut come by and hand them all the tech they need.

Greetings,

At higher level, the AI cheats (just a little bit) and had a bonus economy over yours (i.e.: 125%).
If your opponent AI is set to intelligent and over, you can't sell your tech for a lot of money usually, if you want to sell xeno research to Terrans and you have a +20 diplomacy, you'll get something like 120 BCs. At the dumbest AIs levels, you'll get about 1000 BCs.

Thank you

NO holy crap how many times do we have to say this, the ai never cheats. there is a difference from cheating and getting a bonus, at the higher levels they get economic and production bonuses to make it harder for you. they still follow all the same rules, they just get a boosted economy

I have used this tactic myself, but I must admit I don't particularly like it as it just feels WAY to cheesy. I really hate it when i take a planet and find out that I have jumped 2 - 3 tech steps for buildings, or have those 3-5 sized planets that I just use for economy boosting but find themselves unable to finish a building before its upgraded.

I wish it was possible to build a basic building and then upgrade it, rather than having to build the latest greatest and longest to build before you get any use from it.

On the tech trading side it bugs the bejezuz out of me that if I try and sell an advanced tech I get pennies for it, but if I want to buy a basic tech (AT THE SAME TIME) it can cost thousands if I can buy it at all. It seems sometimes that the AI has a very strange idea about value.

I agree with that. You can cripple your empire if you research building upgrades too soon.

A working knowledge of the tech tree will allow you to space out what your research so that you don't get upgrades you don't need yet. I find heading too much in one direction on the tech tree gets too costly in time and infrastructure, unless of course you invest heavily in diplomacy.
