Send an email to [email protected] with the details. They are very helpful. Be aware that they are probably still a little busy, so it make take them a while to get to you.

They are very helpful but it took a while to get a response. So, yeah, they're busy indeed.

You bought the European version? yes?
You need a serial number from here:
https://www.galciv2.com/paradox/

Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

If you have the limited edition bought in europe, you only have the collectors edition serial, beginning GC2. In that case, there is a link on the donwload page which will accept that serial and give you a serial which will let you update the game.

If this isnt the case, then remember that StarDock are presently very busy, what with the release of a major game and all, but from what I've seen put more effort into customer services than most companies. Be patient and they will help you.

We know of two serial # issues:

Paradox had a misprint on the UK edition of GalCiv II Limited Edition. That can be solved in the downloads area (click on the European link)

Similarly, they had a problem with their Italian serial # labels as well and Paradox is currently working on a solution to that.

Which version do you have?

Dont forget the problem with the Australian release where they inadvertantly chopped the "4" off the front of the serial because it was too far left on the sticker.

Now this is truly annoying. I am NOT in Europe. When I ordered the Collectors Edition, nothing was mentioned about being the European version. I wonder if that is why I am having some problems, but at least now I have a serial number that will allow downloading updates. What kind of a idiot idea is it to produce a game you can't update using the serial number that comes with the thing?

Forster, what are you talking about?  There were no problems in the US/North American retail release with serials.

So if you're not in Europe, why are you worrying about the European version?

Because I could not use the beta, it would not take my serial number. The explanation I got from support was that I had to get another serial number from Stardock for my version.

Just expanding the information:

If you are in Europe, have the English retail box from Paradox and only have a serial number beginning with "GC2-" then click here to obtain the correct serial number

If you have purchased the Italian version then click here to obtain a fixed serial number (the Italian distributer only printed part of the serial number).

If you do not fall into one of the above categories and are having problems with registering your serial number please send an email to me at [email protected] (please include your email address, nickname, serial number and describe the error you are receiving).

I got a boxed sealed game... looked like it had never been opened... from a fairly reputable retailer. Opened the game, installed it... went to register it and guess what... stardock says that I have a serial number that was used for another registration... imagine that. Techsupport says... You can buy another one on the web site for 20 bucks. oh thanks.

Apparently the retailer is less reputable than you thought. Your simplest and cheapest course of action is to simply return to the store and demand a genuinely new copy of the game (plus compensation for the trouble of returning it, if you like), in which case you'll only be out a little time and gas.

Funny thing is... This was a legitimately sealed game. It had never been opened. It had the factory seal tape on it too. It was not re-shrink wrapped.

Well, regardless then if it's been used or just happened by random unluckiness to get the same serial as someone else, your simplest and most hassle-free option remains exchanging it at the store (especially since even if you could convince support to issue a new key, they don't work weekends). You could simply tell them it's defective, and they should replace it no questions asked.
