1.1 Balance Problem

1.1 Balance Problem

I've played a coulpe of games with 1.1 now and found the Torian's to have become the race to beat in a large/huge game with lots of planets to settle. The 30% growth is just over powering for claiming new worlds now. This was on inteligent also and I had no chance to see the new human or Drengin AI's. They just got crushed!

Anyhow it looks to me like the growth bonus is just over powered on this type of map.

if you choose the Torians, you can actually make them STRICTLY BETTER. The Torians are the only race for which this is possible.

Last time I checked the default Iconians had a lot of leftover ability points, I think more then the Torians who have one.

In one of the games I played for beta, the Torians were expanding dramatically and got into a long war with the Drengin. The Drengin influence area on the map was fairly small, and the Torians had about a 70% stronger economy and a stronger military rating. During the course of the war, I heard many reports about Drengin planets defecting to the Torians. Bad news for the Drengin, right?

Not really. The Drengin were continually pushing military tech (this was a no-tech trading game). Eventually the Torian military strength and economy started trending down down down. They ate the Torians for breakfast, and eventually conquered most of their planets, with a few going to the Arceans, who jumped in at the end.

Of course, then we got the +influence event, and the Arceans started flipping Dregin, Human and Drath planets like mad.

Could be the AI is weak late. Thus it only looks like the Torian's are too strong. Still that is IF the computer plays them. What about if the human plays them?! Then we are looking at them being un-balanced.

Simply put population growth is overpowering in the Beta. Since it's a beta and since it's a new system it's to be expected it would not be perfect out of the box! A simple change in the way pop growth is calculated may be all that is required to balance. Or perhaps a change in bonus %.
