Any way to revert to the non Beta?

without re-installing?

I'd just perfer to avoid re-installing if I could, not particuarly liking the unstable natue of the 1.1 beta and was hoping to go back to 1.0 without reinstalling.

Sorry... The only way is to reinstall. If you created archives via SDC before you installed the beta you can use them to 'reinstall', otherwise you'll need to uninstall the beta and reinstall 1.0X.

Personally, I believe there should be an added message to the beta warning.

Before:
"If you don't know what a beta is, don't try it."

After:
"If you don't know what a beta is, don't try it. If you do, but don't know enough to make a backup when trying a beta, then it's not our fault."


With that said, the only way to get back the old version is a reinstall. The beta is a beta, it is unsupported. That means they don't have time to make programs to revert the changes should anything happen, because they are spending most of their time fixing problems with the beta itself.

Well, if you can install SDC on your gaming computer with an internet access, you may be able to update the game to the latest non-beta version. You need to have the "show prerelase" checkbox unchecked, and the version 1.0X.006 should appear next to GC2 as an updatable version.

There is a way to revert, go to SDC (Stardock Central) and on the left hand top corner click on games, this will bring up all the games you have access to, then click on Galciv 2, this will bring up the Galciv 2 game version 1.10[b].006, now go down to the bottom of the screen and uncheck the box that says show pre-release version, the screen will refresh and now beside the 1.10[b].006 will appear the previous version 1.0X.010, download that one and that will restore the game to your previous version.

I had the same problem, and I couldn't get SDC to show me the non-beta version, even after unchecking the "show pre-release versions" checkbox. What I did was download the 1.0X.010 patch from the downloads link above (it's erroneously called Collector's Edition Bonus Pack for some reason), and install that. That didn't fully work though, but now in SDC it had my version as 1.0X.010. Then I right-clicked on GalCiv II and clicked "Download and archive", which got all the files for the 1.0X.010 version down again, and archived them. Then I did "restore archive", and it fixed it!

If, unlike me, you happen to have been clever enough to archive previous versions before, you won't have to go through the downloading step.
