Star Names

Where are they from?

What's the system for naming stars in Galciv2?

Ones I've recognized so far--
Romans: Caesar, Hadrian, Tacitus
Gods/goddess: Zeus, Poseidon, Rhea, Artemis, Apollo
Homer: Hector, Nestor, Patroklos, Achiles
Science Fiction writers: Cherryh, Anderson, Asimov, Heinlein

Also, is there a list somewhere of all the star names?

I've also come across Sauron (Lord of the Rings, of course), and a couple that I read about a while back when the game was still in production, but had completely forgotten about until I came across them in my current (Large galaxy) game: Gabe and Tycho.

Draginol, from the Stardock team.

And Wardell. Frogboy is represented in at least two solar systems.

You can find all the stars names here C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English than click the file named STARS.

There's also a Sobek Re, which is either a Egyptian god, or maybe something from Stargate.

There's also a "Starbuck"

There's a lot of cross over, hoth could be a star, as well as the name of a general and the guy from star wars?

It's like betelgeuse - same as the film, a planet in the hitchhikers guide, and also I believe the brightest known star in the universe

the vast majority are actual names of real stars. the people who name stars name them for gods, famous people, and, because they're nerds, scifi autthors and stuff like that.

There at least a reference to Dungeons & Dragons deities : Tyr.

I'm pretty sure Tyr was a Norse god before they used him in Dungeons & Dragons.

EDIT: Does anyone know if adding names to the STARS.txt file flags your game as modded? I assume it wouldn't but I'd like to make sure.

What? Dungeons and Dragons is old beyond reconing, in fact all religions are just spinnoffs of those present in DnD

I'm an amateur astronomer geek, but I still like the (mostly) fantasy star names in the game. If I want the real thing, I can just look up on a clear night and try to remember the names. Once you get beyond the bright stars, it's all catalog numbers anyway.

I would like to bump the earlier question: what happens if you change the list of star names?
