General Question

Hi,

i am living in Germany and at saturday last week i bought the game for aprox. 34.- EUR. Before i install a computer game, first off all, i look into the internet if there are updates available. So i go to this website and was very confused about this Post here. I hope i understand it right, that the public 1.1 patch for the game is also for the german version, bacause i think it can not be, that i bought 34. EUR and must reconfigure my german system into a english system, copy files or such things. So my question is: if the 1.1 Patch goes public is it also for the german version?
Thanks for an answer...

From what I understand, Stardock only makes the game in english, and they have to wait for people from their European distributor to translate it to other languages. It seems to me like Stardock's ongoing commitment to updating their game is causing all kinds of havoc with this plan, because realistically, you don't expect new things every few weeks, so whoever is doing the translation just can't keep up with the pace. So most likely, when the final 1.1 patch goes live, it will probably be in english. Having said that, I'm sure Stardock will find a way to support the German version as well, it will just take longer because of the various translation issues they are trying to work out.

There's much more to read in that thread, but these 3 quotes are interesting:

As of March 24, 2006 at 5pm EST the 1.0X update of GalCiv II convert international users into the English version.
When 1.1 goes public, we will work with Paradox to get the new files translated into the appropriate languages.
The other thing we have heard is that some people have had problems graphically with non-English versions. We do not know the cause of this but we do know that you can fix it (until we find out the real cause) by:
Go to Control Panel. Open up Regional Settings. Change to English. It shouldn't make a difference in how your computer works. We don't understand why it makes a difference in a computer game either.

Ack. Terrific. Well that would explain a lot of things. That's..frustrating.
I hate to say it but for the time being, if you want 1.0X you'll have to do it in English. There's not a lot we can do. Paradox apparently used 1.0 for their translation efforts and we've gotten nothing new from them. We don't do the translations themselves.
I realize as a gamer, who is responsible for what doesn't matter. You just want your game working. We (Stardock) just make the game. We're not involved in translation other than taking files that are sent to us and double-checking that they work.
It would be helpful if people contacted Paradox on this issue. If we get translated files, we can integrate them in very quickly.

Hi guys,

My name is Florian and I work for Paradox Interactive, the company responsible for the European versions of GC2. We will of course do whatever needed to incorporate the changes in German as well. I expect to know more and will be able to give you a time estimate once I have heared back from Kris at Stardock who was a an essential part of making the German version of GC2 come true. - (We are working with a 6 hour time difference between Sweden and the USA)
