Captured Techs

When a civilization takes over a planet from another civ, does the attacking civ gain the tech that was used on the planet, or none at all. I think the attacker should gain whatever tech that was on the planet. And as a added twist if your capital (home)planet falls first the attacker would gain all existing techs that the civilization had accumulated up to that point. What do you think. Definately would make you want to protect those planets. :)

That would make planetary invasion the most overpowering thing to do in the whole game. Win one planet, for even as long as a single turn, and get every single tech your opponent had? Wow.

You can sometimes steal a single tech when you capture a planet. How that is determined, I don't really know.

Techs are random. When fighting the Drengin, I remember one turn I got phasors, next turn beam weapon theory. Considering I had already tech whored my way to Doom Ray, this wasn't worth much. And techs aren't "used" on any one planet, so that would be impossible

that would be like giving a starship as a gift and the receiving race would gain what ever that tech on the ship. Like my psionic death ray.. That's a no no...

Problem is, with the way space warfare is, it's easy to get h uge amounts of engines on some ships, bee line towards a capital, steal all their techs, and har har you win.
