Imperium Galactica Vs. Galactic Civs 2 ??

Hi all am new to this game and forum. I am waiting for my delivery of Galacivs 2 anytime now. I`ve read pretty much all the reviews that i could find on this game and it seems pretty unaminous that it`s a corker of a game...even rivaling Civ 4 that i have played into the ground for the last couple of months now. Hence why i`m getting this title.
Anyway back to question. About 3 or 4 yeatrs ago i bought a game called Imperium galactica. it was cheap then so it was old even when i got it. Thouroughly enjoyed it. But it seems that it` VERY similair to this game. 4X Explore, Expand, Exploit and Exterminare. You started with a colony ship, a home planet, and a light class battle ship (Survey ship ??) You had to expand to keep strong and fight of all those bad aliens as well. You had tech trees, trade, espionage, and diplomacy. You even had the option to design your own ships and in battle sequences had little control over your mighty battle fleet........does any of this sound familiar ?? Did the guys who create this game get their inspiration from I Galactica all those light years ago ?? How much different is this game from I Galactica if anyone of you space fairers have ever played it ??

They are actually quite different.

If I remember correctly, Galactica was not turned base so you really have to move very fast or abuse the pause button. Also, I seem to recalll the AI was pretty bad, and the best strategy was to get a single mega fleet and lay waste to the galaxy... not many other options.

That said, I did enjoy it and had some very cool concepts and ideas. The fleet battles were actually quite good too.

also no RTS elements in Gal Civ 2, thankfully when it comes to planetary invasions

even rivaling Civ 4

What do you mean rivaling? GalCiv2 whoops Civ4, especially in things like sandbox mode and AI

No, this game is much older. I believe the os2 version was out in something like 94 (could be earlier)
They left ship building out in the last galciv because the other ship builders would just dwarf them, and make people think of galciv as an inferior copycat, when it had the ideas first.
And finally, there is NO fleet control. You watch the battle, and see how well your designs fare. If you could shoot them down, it would lose the value of the 3 different attack/defense systems.

Imperium Galactica was a much simpler game than Gal Civ II, but I did like the promotion aspect of it and rather wished that section had lasted longer rather than acting as a fancy tutorial.

There is an Imperium Galactica II, but I never played it. I believe the third in the series became Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

guess the OP never ever heard of moo2 at all(not suggesting moo2 had all the original ideas, but it was the first game to use them in the best way), since otherwise he wouldnt even ask that question.

moo2 came out before imperium galactica 1
