Really need help

Greetings,
I play with the new Beta patch.
I am in a middle of a game at the toughest level on a medium map. I am the #1 race with 4 systems and 7 planets. I keep my moral and approval to the highest possible. I have plenty of influence, my borders are quite well protected (influence and military wise), I have a ring of economic starebases around each solar systems to boost production. I am a STAR Democracy and my population is quite happy.
Suddently, 3 of my planets defect and form a minor race. And my approval is down to 1%. I said to myself: " ok, it sucks, but it is a new challenge." For 75 turns, I keep tax to 0 (yes, ZERO) and I manage my economy by selling my techs, keeping my spending between 20% and 50% most of the time.
I spent money to build and research entertainment, ethic (alliging to good), etc. I was not able to take back the planets with transports because the vote don't let me invade them.
NEVER the approval went up. I had to terminate the game. Anyone encountered that glitch already? What could I have done to get back my approval to more than 1%? Did I messed up?
