Loving the Beta!

Tech trading off and an enhanced map -- yay!

I’m loving the 1.1 beta so far! I’ve always wanted to concentrate on things other than trade and bartering, and with tech trading disabled I’m able to assimilate my neighbors in true self-sustaining imperial fashion without falling behind the research curve. Great option! I haven’t given the ship builder a workout since the upgrade, but it’s looking good. I hope to be able — down the line — to design ships as one race and play them as another if they use the same ship style. Currently one cannot.

Again: Best. Update. Ever!

I havent downloaded it yet because I am in the middle of 3 different games and dont want to bugger them up. I also am a bit wary of losing my current ship designs.... I could back them up but I dont really have much time to play until next weekend anyway, so I think I will skip the beta and wait for the final patch.

One thing I can guarantee - I wont be using the No Tech Trading option though - the AI already falls far behind as it is!

You won't lose your current ship designs.

My only suggestion so far is to pare back a bit on the adjustments to planet quality and frequency. In an abundant planets, abundant habitables game I encountered a lovely little system with a PQ 19, 2 PQ 14s, a PQ 12, and a PQ 10. I don't think I found a single system on a gigantic map without at least one (and usually three) double digit worlds. It quickly surpassed even my love for ginormous empires.

Was there, perhaps, a gigantic, ancient space station Link in the system that had possibly moved those planets into the system?

Speaking of which, things like that might be an interesting idea for new features. Where there's some kind of wierdness in each game's generated galaxy. Sometimes you find a Centerpoint Station and the Five Brothers, other times you find a Dyson Sphere, maybe you find a Ringworld or a Halo. Things like that.

I haven't had a chance to play much with 1.1 beta, but I just think it's so cool of stardock to release this optional patch in the first place! Not only does it fix some bugs, but it also adds a lot of new features! So soon after the initial release of a game, I've never heard of anything like that.

It's called "abundant" for a reason. If you want less habitable planets, don't take the abundant settings.

I think he's talking about the abundance compared to previous versions - I've noticed higher-level planets than usual in abundant as well. I've only started one game though, so I can't be sure if it was adjusted in some way or I just got lucky.
The only problem I've had with the patch so far is the Ion Engine (before Impulse, I think it's Ion at least) doesn't like adjusting after being placed in the shipbuilder. Nothing else so far though - great patch!

all engines seem to have issues if you adjust them after being placed, and alot of other things too i find, tho not as often or bad.

Ya abundant is now abundantly good planets... Have to try the other settings. My 1st game on the beta I thought OMFG, what a great start, i had a 26, some 16s, some 19s, and loads of 12s.

But then I saw the computer had some of these too....

I am waiting for the final version of the patch before I install it, hopefully the minor probs will be worked out by then... should only be another day or two...

I'm really enjoying the new version, too. Especially the blind exploration mode rocks.

Still playing my 1st BETA game - the defeat is in sight.
Started as the Yor on a medium map with the Drengin, Terran and Altarian, all on intelligent. After the initial building up phase the Drengin started to declare war... on ALL civs, one minor included.

The Terran have been wiped out quickly by the Drengin - they fell back in military too much. At least they gave me Earth when their time was over, although it doesn't really help the situation I'm in atm.

I'm in the 2nd war with the Drengin right now and they are giving me a tough battle. They beelined both logistics and minituarization + built the hyperion shrinker & logistics center. Their fleets smash mine into pieces .
I don't know how they also outproduce me (waves of huge fleets, 13-15 ships each, are heading towards / around my empire), but I guess they perfectly utilize economy starbases.

Although I'm ahead in techs (got mostly different ones but overall more advanced) they crushed my hope to win this game. Especially since they have peace with the Altarian now, who had nothing better to do than declare war on me "to make an end to my superevil civ".

No doubt that the AI has been improved. What makes it even harder for me to compete atm is the fact that several other essential changes to the game were made, e.g the economics, the pop growth, etc.
My beloved old GalCiv habits are gone... which isn't a bad thing tho

I'm really excited about this version so far. Well done, devs
A few crashes but I can live with them. Fortunately they never broke my savegames...

Now my empire calls me - I have to witness my downfall

Loving the beta 1.1

The biggest change for me that I've not seen mentioned by anyone else? Colour-coded resource icons in zoomed out mode! Yes! I spend most of my time zoomed out, and that is such an improvement for something so trivial.

All the new game settings seem great, and the improved ship builder is just awesome. And not having to micromanage minimising social wastage? Woo! Yay!

Can't wait until it's all polished up.

To Monkey Pants: Yes, yes!! The color-coded resources is a GREAT addition! Moreso because now when an opponent grabs one, you can actually tell what kind it is if you want to try to take it later. I was really frustrated in 1.0X games cause once a resource was taken, you'd never know what kind it was again due to those awful "mining starbase 241" names.

Not that it matters nmuch ow that 1.1 is coming, but it was always possible to see what type of resource an occupied base was.

Even without advanced espionage you could just zoom right in and see the resource sitting in the middle of the starbase.
