Have your read the EULA about Software update?

ACTIVATION FOR UPDATES
Updated versions of the SOFTWARE made available
after the release will require Internet access
to activate the update. Alternatively, users may
send an email with a special code to be sent back
the file needed to activate the Registered Version
on a machine without direct Internet access.

Are you sure activation code is the same than serial ID?

I am having just as much trouble as you:

1) The 1.1b patch was hard to find on the website, for unknown reasons.

2) The 1.1b patch refuses to activate

3) Support on this subject has been two fold 1)You're doing it wrong end user, 2) You're still doing it wrong.

Not to mention, certain posters reply unhelpfully with admonitions to examine the fine print in the EULA. As if that has any bearing on this issue.

The beta was put up last night in 'patch' format because the IT had left the office for the weekend. When everything is done through StardockCentral activation is less of a sticky issue, but when dealing with individual EXE's it becomes more painful

I dont know much about the matter, but your Serial Number should work when the game requests an activation code. Check your game directory, make sure a sig.bin file was created, and if all this works but the game dosent activate, then you may have to wait until Monday for a proper exe to be released via SDC (unless someone who knows more can help you guys out)

Sorry I don't have more info to pass along

Certain posters who also pointed you to a link that would possibly have helped and who did so only to attempt to provide help? Oh those posters!

European CE editions didn't have a serial number. There is a link in the downloads section top-right "Bought your game in Europe? Click here" which generates a serial, which is in turn e-mailed to you and which Stardock Central can re-mail to you at any time.

That's what it requires, and since it's a beta I really don't think there's any room to complain at all.

Yep, I just tried it now and that's exactly what you need, the serial and NOT the collectors edition code (which starts GC2 and is on the back of the manual). Blame the European publisher, not Stardock, for this mess.

Hmmm I updated to version 1.1 and when i started the game it did not ask for a code.

I as well am having problems. I copied the serial # right out of the registry, then tried copying off the back of the cd case about 12 times - I keep getting "Invalid Activation"

There is a free standing no activation download of the 1.1beta finally released right now in downloads section. No Stardock involved. I just downloaded it 25 megs and patch my game. Have you tried that?

About activation that confused people the 'O' and the '0' look the same.

Yup, My patched CD game is no longer available to play. I disconnected from inet and entered my serial number but no cigar.

you all might remember that the exact same thing happened during the last patch. A new version of the same patch was put on the site that worked fine. Probably a beta issue.

I would think copying and pasting from the registry would take care of that problem.
