population vs production/research

normally i dont bother much with population buildings. a farm and an entertainment building on each 10+ planet and i get more then enough tax revenue to fund all my production / research planets
last game i had one very high level planet, think it was like 17 or so, which had two tiles with farming bonus, one 300% and one 100%
i wanted to try out how really high population would affect my style of play so i used both tiles and gave that planet lots of morale buildings + some tax buildings
surprisingly, even without any labs, the planet startet to get lots and lots of research pointer

does population add to production/research? if yes: maybe having lots of farms and few factories is after all worth it ... a little less production but a LOT more money

Odd. I thought pop didn't affect production at all.

im not really sure if the population was really responsible for that research
i got some starbases, maybe it was caused by them
anyone here who really knows if pop does give production/research ?

afaik its capped by the food, civilization capital produces 10, each colony 5
farms add 4/5/6/? depending on your tech level in farming
(so a small farm on a colony has 5+4 = 9 billion people max)

The population of a world does not affect industry except insomuch as it produces tax revenue with which to fund said industry. In general, however, population and industry are totally separate.

The population of a world is capped by the amount of food that it produces, but also by a hard limit that is based on the quality of a planet. The formula for this hard limit is as follows:

0.02 * (PQ + 1) ^ 3

As such, a PQ10 world would be:

0.02 * 11 * 11 * 11 = 26.62 billion
