Takes 40 minutes to load up a save game

Performance some what lacking

As the title suggests, I feel it most unacceptable to have to wait around 40 minutes for the save game too load up, however advanced it may be. I don't mind waiting 5 minutes, perhaps even baring ten, but this has got so silly, that everytime I need to close the window or rush off, I have to wait the best part of an hour to get the game back up again.

Before you close try zooming out as far as you can. This saves on the amount of rendering the savegame must do to restart. Changed my load time from 5 mins to 2 mins

Umm... for the rest of the people who play this game it takes less than 30 seconds... If it is really taking 40 minutes then there is somethign really wrong with your setup.

My first guess would be you have a virus checker on. One that is scanning every file on access... This is always going to cause problem.

Second guess is you have a slow machine and, well, can't really blame the game on that.

Third guess is you have a badly fragmented disk with hundreds of background processes.

All those aside, you need to give more information about your setup.

Umm, even 2 or 5 minutes is well, waaaaay too long. even on my 4 year old rig, it only takes 30 seconds.

I'd give up after 1 minute

Lol he must be playing on some ancient system like a 486sx25 hahaha 40 minutes is goooood for those ancient machines. Time to stop being stingy and upgrade.

I've not had a 40 minute gap, but I have had a 5-10min one quite regularly (Athlong XP3200, 1gig RAM, blah blah - i.e. it's a mid-end machine, on a savegame with the maximum galaxy size, inhabitable planets, etc. Not sure if it's down to the sheer amount of stuff saved, or to my HDs being a bit creaky, or even because I have the game on my F: drive and it's using stuff from My Documents (C:) when the 2 drives are on the same IDE cable. Quite odd, though. I also see quite long (~5 mins ish) on the ship editor/constructor screens when a custom design is being loaded.

You probably got trojans and spyware out the ying yang cause my system sounds identical to yours and I have seconds for loads and even when I minimize the screen it back up within 30 seconds or less. Don't blame the software when it's your system that can clearly be the culprit with your issues. Specially when many others aren't experiencing this with same specs. I suggest reformatting your drive and getting it nice and clean again. Defragging once a month helps also.

Actually, GalCiv is very "kill" friendly, although if it does indeed take more than 5 minutes to load a game, then maybe your system wouldn't be very kill friendly. *shrugs*

Maybe the OP was including the time it takes to come home from work (school?), take a shower, eat dinner, boot his PC, run the game, choose the save... then load it!

Nah, even that's pushing the boundaries of belief! 40 minutes is a joke, either your pc deserves its long awaited retirement or your system is very very badly maintained. Page file size of 1kb?

And VagaBlade you have freaked me out..... you are using the same avatar as a good friend of mine! I thought it was him at first..... but he uses paragraphs!

It didn't always take 40 minutes. It used to load up instantly but as I'm playing on a large map and have played for ages it gets slower and slower to load. And yes it does really take 40 minutes, at first a grinned and bared it and just took a shower or cooked dinner while it loaded or something like that, but now I just can't be bothered. I don't have a slow system thats whats so weird.

My system is an Athalon 3700 64bit 1MB Cashe Clawhammer. I have 1 Gig of PC3200 DDR Crucial Memory, a 120 Gig disk 8MB Cashe, a ATI X800XT 256MB and a DVD rom 45 times and CD rom 50 times.

I don't have any viruses and my disk has just been defragged and was pretty healthy before then. The only thing I have is Norton Running in the background. Which I really don't like switiching off as I always forget to switch it back on and I have to switch my Reuter Radio off because my PC is permininantly connected to the internet. Which I like because people often require my attention. I will try a few of the tips and see whether that makes a difference though just to see, otherwise keep thinking I suppose.

My bet is that this is your problem. Find a save that usually takes about 40 minutes, turn this off just this once and see the difference. I would suspect that you find it improves things a hell of a lot.

If this does fix your problem, there are options in norton for "Check every file I access", or something like that. You want this off (you can probably set it to only executables or something). Most files can't/won't have viruses in them anyway. You can stil have norton running this way, but it won't sit there trying to read all your files constantly.

Okay, I switch Norton off and it still doesn't work Infact, it totally screwed up and came up with an error. I tryed to see if I could get a bug fix or some kind of patch but I'm not allowed the updates as my registration code is invalid. So I bought the limited edition for nothing. I just want the blumin thing to work. Please make note that I am playing on a huge map and to show you the scale i've been playing my income per week is 24000 Billion Credits.

Bummer dude. If you are having trouble with serial codes then you might want to look at https://www.galciv2.com/paradox/ to see if it is relevant for you. And if that doesn't help, email support and get them to help you. It is kinda important to them that you get what you paid for.

Make sure you are running the latest non-beta update when you can, see if that helps at all.
