Not a bug, but a minor oversite.

When you play a custom race and pick a color, then pick to play up against random races and get one that is the same color as yourself, You get your stuff mixed up with them. If you pick one color, and you end up with a race that is their color also, it should force them to use a secondary color that is not already in the game.

I ended up with a CTD. The last thing I did was click the Find button to locate a ship that required a move order. I'm sorry but I can't honestly say if I managed to issue the order at the crash or not. But I do know it selected the ship at least.

Here are a few things I've come across while playing:
1) Panning in the shipyard is very touchy at times. Also it is possible to move the ship way out of view if you happen to move the mouse outside the window while the LMB is held and then released. You can recover the camera by clicking one of the default views.
2) Unable to mirror a part with zero degree rotation i.e. does not flip it to 180.
3) 180 degree marking does not line up with the arrow in the dial.
4) Arrow camera control tool tips probably should say "Rotate" instead of "Pan"
5) There is some delay between mouse move and camera move. Causes the ship model to "rubberband" in the view.
6) Whenever a ship requires move orders the game does not automatically highlight that ship. It took me a little bit to figure out what was going on since it used to do this. In order to get the Turn button to appear all ships must have move orders or be skipped. The game does not automatically select the next ship that needs move orders after another has been given orders.

1 .Possible bug in starbase radius of influence.
Planets right on the edge, but still within the ring, do NOT recieve the starbase bonuses.
If intentional, this can be misleading if you use the new starbase area overlays to get the maximum number of planets into it's radius.
If not, then the actual area if not matching the displayed area.

2. In ship designer, some components have the size slider reversed once attached to the hull. I've noticed this on the life-support items.

BTW: I Love the new ship-designer screen, except it still removes all of the functional components. Is this still needed now there is an a option show only functional components in the grid? I would like to see the remove functional components code mapped to a UI button instead of automatically executed when pressing upgrade.

I talked to the Snathi in the Diplomacy Screen, and asked them to give me Missle Theory, and they said "Very well, we will give you tribute this time."

However not only did it still show Missle Theory still on the Snathi's side of the screen, but I also did not receive the Missle Theory technology.

Two bugs regarding random opponents/

1) When choosing random opponents, it never chooses terran alliance as one of them.

3) Which I believe is related to 1, If you ask for 9 opponents it will hang when you press the turn button. Except if you do custom race, or pick the terran Alliance.

So it seems that it is missing the terran alliance in it's list of possible opponents to choose from. And so, when asking for 9 random opponents, its only got 8 to choose from (unless you are custom race or terran alliance anyway, then it does have 9 to choose from).

Ship designer bug - PLASMA weapons 50x bigger than the ship! Quite fun as bugs go


Haha, thats awesome.

Second to this is that "Bigger" is smaller and "Smaller" is bigger for this part, but I think this has been mentioned before.


Also related to the ship designer, When you have the "Rotate Parts" option set to "Freely", then the mouse wheel will rotate in the same direction regardles of which way you "wheel" it.

Background music volume dosn't work on startup.

I like to listen to the radio while playing so I have the background music volume turned all the way down, but when I start GalCiv2 the background music is playing at the default volume, until I go into the audio options screen and turn the volume up (the slider is on 0 when I go into the audio options screen) and then down again.

End Turn button disappearing on me after I press it. Only seems to happen when I should have finished researching a tech. It never actually goes to the next round (i.e. no quarterly report is issued), but the End Turn button is gone. Reloading a previous savegame doesn't fix it, usually. Also, when/if reloading does fix it, I lose a turn (that's an old bug though).

I believe that the AI is trying to do something, but can't, so the next turn never comes. It may be limited to a particular AI... but I'm playing against 9 opponents, so, can't help you there.

EDIT: Hey, it's the same bug that Nath found... and he seems to have been able to narrow down the exact cause, too. Thanks, I'll see if that helps.

CTD during play. Simply hit the turn button and it crashes during AIs moves. Reloaded the save game, crashed again exacly on the same turn. End of the debug file shows the error quite plainly, I'd think.

Frogboy - I'm listing what I consider bugs wihtout the support of a debug message. I apologize for that as I didn't realize it was required.

1. Biggest problem I've had is the AI on "Bright" keeps launching suicidal attacks on well defended starbases. 1 ship against a a starbase with a trillion offense/defense weapons. I watched the AI do this 5 times in a row on almost consecutive turns. He didn't even scratch the paint.

2. It also appears (once again all races manually set to Bright Intelligence) that the AI seriously misjudges their chances in combat. I've seen AI battles where single Defenders ships attack a fleet of heavy fighters... with no backup any where around to take advantage of the situation of "if" an opponent was damaged (which they weren't). These suicide attacks seem to serve no purpose.

3. In the shipbuilder screen when I go to resize a component, it turns it around instead. Then I've got to flip through all the switches to figure out how to get it pointing the right way, and then I can reseize it again. It seems every "first time" I go to resize an already place component it flips is 180 degrees.

4. When upgrading ships in the shipbuilder I am totally crippled by the fact I can't work off my previous fully loaded design. I'd like to "load custom ship", and then swap out just 1 or 2 components. Right now since it wipes all your compnents out, I have no idea WHAT I had on the ship to begin with. The way things are now, I can't make incrementally upgrade ships. Which is what I really want to do. This feature hasd been asked for by a ton of my buddies since they started skipping ship building entirely do this this problem.

5. I had one crash in my whole game and I didn't know I could get a crash report. I will get it next time.

Moving the ship until its movement points are gone, or doing anything else to cause it to lose focus (guard, spacebar, etc), will cause the other autopilot ships to merrily continue their routine and bring back thy hallowed TURN button.


I believe this is an option in the option screen. Something along the line of "don't end turn if the autopilot didn't use all of a ship movement, focus me to it so I can redirect it" abeited much shorter in the game's words. For all those afflicted with this similar problem, I suggest toggling this option and see if that helps? I remember switching this on/off a long time ago.

Purchases made on the same turn as a load is not completed on time.
I think the problem is that no production or research is conducted on the first turn after load, the taxes are colected and money spent though.

Resizing engines sometimes causes them to rotate 90 or 180 degree and jump 10x in size or so, looks quite fun:

Purchases made on the same turn as a load is not completed on time.
I think the problem is that no production or research is conducted on the first turn after load, the taxes are colected and money spent though.

From what I have noticed after loading game (quicksave) and hitting "End Turn":
1. Date is not incremented
2. No production or research is conducted
3. No taxes are collected (and money lost in my case)
4. Ships that had no movement points left regain them, so you can move them again for free. Sometimes they are also set on autopilot to bottom corner of the map, with no destination reported in their info however.
This is new game, started and saved under 1.1Beta, but the issue more or less was also present in 1.0X

Pressing the Load button without having a game selected in the save/load dialog, causes the game to display a no game selected box behind the save/load dialog, so it is not visible untill the save/load dialog is closed wither by loading, saving or canceling.

I’ve noticed two problems with the v1.1 beta, and they may be related.

First, after clicking "Turn" while zoomed out to get a wide view of my burgeoning empire, the button disappears and doesn’t come back. I assume this may have to do with trying to process too many objects in the field of view, but I’m just guessing. Initially, I’d get around this by doing a "Quick Save", quitting, and then loading the save. Later I learned to avoid it by making sure I was zoomed in before clicking the Turn button.

The second issue is that I was unable to upgrade ships I had previously defined in a different game — same race, same style of ships. Whenever trying to add any component to the bare hull + jewelry combo that appears in the editor, a notification would pop up telling me there’s no more room. I can guess this may have to do with bad saved games connected to the first problem’s initial workaround, but I’m by no means sure.

I still cannot scroll down in the 'Description' portion of a planet's tile. Not the building, but the tile itself (bonuses, etc.)

Hi Rygarxiii.

I also had that problem. The scroll bar only appear at low resolutions when there is not enough space to fit the description in the box. At higher resolutions there is no need for the scrollbars so there was probably no dev who encountered the problem during playtesting.

But you CAN acutally scroll down, if you click at the lower right corner of the scroll down button. Strange thing but it works this way.

I have an issue with the turn button . WHen I click it I wait for ever and the button never comes back. I waited 5 minuts and it never came back. This is only after installing the 1.1 beta patch. My game that I have been playing for a couple days is messed up. I know that its a beta so im not upset , but its something to look into.
