Frustrated

Newbe

I'm very frustrated with trying to buy the game. I went to the web site and clicked on buy this game. It took me to a list of games to chose from and I had to hunt for GCII from a list. This was irritating because I already indicated I wanted to by the darn game. Next, when I clicked on "Add to Cart" nothing was added to my cart. After several frustrating minutes I figure out, on my own with no guidance from the store, that I have to have an account so I created an account and downloaded and installed Stardock. When I went back to the main web page, it would not let me log on. But it did let me create a new account using the same users name and password. Still I could not log on. It appears the only way to log on is through Stardock. If this is true, why have a log in box on the home page. Ok now I'm really getting ready to drop the idea of buying this game. So, I finally figure out that maybe just maybe I have to buy the game through Stardock. Well low and behold I can’t do that without creating yet another "Store" account. AND I'm required to give out my home phone number. Now why do you guys want that? Are you planning on marketing me? I’m going to give it one more try and if it does not go smoothly you will have lost me forever. I won’t even buy your products on the barging shelf.

Ok call me stupid buy why don’t it work like this?

1. Would you like to buy this game for xx dollars?
2. Yes
3. Please fill out your name and shipping address
4. Please fill out payment method
5. Thank you. You may now down load the game.

Ok now I bought the game and the fringing site tells me you use stardock to download the game and gives me a link. When I click the link it wants to install stardock yet aging (third time now) I'm old I'm slow so I figure I must have missed something. So, I install it again. Now for the first time it wants a reboot. Ok says I. Maybe that is the problem. So I reboot load up Star Dock and can't find a single place to down load the game I just bought. Can you guys make this any harder? Not only that but I can’t log on to the home site to rant and rave in this thread so I have to go about it in a round about way to get here. Is it just me? Did everyone else find this system intuitive and easy to use?

In SD Central go to the games tab -- Galactic Civilizations 2 should be listed there. You may have to enter your serial # under the options menu.

I finally found the download manager under tools. I'm downloading the game now. Still can’t figure out why I can't log onto the main web site. I have to post using the Stardock Discussion link. Thanks for the help guys. I hope everything goes better from here on out.

I find Stardock Central handy and easy to use. Enough so I buy their games without the boxes now.
Maybe I can help out if you tell where your having problems.

Ok I think the problem is you keep clicking the link to download and install Stardock Central.. (from re-reading your post again). Once this program is installed on your computer... Run it. The goto the Tools dropdown menu and select register product. A new popup window appears. Click 'Games' to get it selected, Object Desktop is default. Right across from the Word games will be a drop down box.. go thru the list and pick out Galactic Civilizations II. Put in your email address used for your stardock.com account and the serial you were given from the receipt email. Click Register button then OK.

After that Galactic Civilizations II will be in list of purchased software under the games tab at the left. Note the plus sign thingy and click it to expand it. You'll need to make sure you get all 4 - the game one, tutorials, movies, and multimedia.

Ok. Hope that helps. Got any more questions let us know.

Well to be honest I found stardocks setup pretty straight forward in comparison to others.

That said... You probably are not the type that would ever deal well with digitaly distributed software. Yes it should be easier and more hassle free but it's not. It's been this way for a long long time.

I went through hell and back to just get Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion off of Direct2Drive (for those wondering, there is no real copy protection on this game).

Horrid experience, probably will never buy from them again. I have a 15 mbit connection. Had to PAY to get the game and had to PAY to get a good server to get it off of. It refused to finish downloading on my usb drive because it was using fat32 and the single file was 4.5 gigs. Fat32 has a 4gig limit in file size...be nice if they reminded me of that ..issue. I got it worked out but it took two days for me to figure out what the heck was going on. not happy. Their support did not mention this issue. SO just a side note. Besure that you are using NTFS on your drive when you download 4+gig sized files.

I've downloaded 5 games from another company, won't mention their name because I beta test for them, and I've never had this much hassle. Now I understand that its my lack of knowledge on how everything works that adds to my bad experience but, I also design web sites and computer software for the Navy and the first lesson you learn is to make things user friendly. I would not call my first experience with this system user friendly. If I click on a product at a e-store to add it to my cart, it should add it to my cart. Not make be figure out why I can’t get it added to my cart. If you have to be registered first then remove the “add to cart” button until I’m registered. Replace it with a “you have to register” button. Also, don’t make me install a program to download something and make me give out my home phone number. If I did not like GC I so much and have such high hopes for this game and want to support turn based games I would be long gone.
