Galactic Civilizations II: 1.1 BETA released

Feeling dangerous?

http://stardock.cachefly.net/GalCiv2_110_beta_032406.exe

Feeling really dangerous tonight? We've got the BETA of v1.1 now available to download. Don't know what a beta is? Don't know if you should download this? Then don't. :)

To find out what we've added, tweaked, enhanced, fixed, etc. you can read the [full history here]. That history is just what's new in 1.1 beta over 1.0X.  If it's not listed in there, we didn't do it yet. We have other things we plan to do with 1.1 (such as the modding features) and then that'll be 1.1.  Other stuff will go into the next free update.

I've just started playing, and I have to say ... I need a better computer.

But as far as the patch goes, the 'Blind Influence' option and the new economic/production system has me excited!

Im pretty much a newbie to this game but so far my experience with 1.10 beta is its a lot harder. Have had a few starts now where the AI is just being a lot more aggresive and taking me out. Didnt change skill levels, always been at normal, but now all the AI seems mad as hell and ready to take me on.

Dude, I'm loving everything that has been changed. The new way it hands the econemy takes several turns to get used it. But it's quite rewarding! I was sliding by for awhile with low income and low money scarely building colony ships and scarely building my colonys. And when i did build my colonys I set them up to produce population and to give me money. For awhile I was always on my edge of my seat hoping that the AI didn't take the last planets before my scarce colony ships get there to plant my seeds... This has stopped now sense some how my morale has boosted by 20% all across my planets, plus I have greater income even before I upped the taxes! The population must've grown and all my hard work payed off! Now I'm getting 290bc a week even with my spending at 55%! Can't wait for later in the game for combat and designing attack ships!

GRAND Work Stardock!

Only a few turns in, but so far I LOVE the changes. Brad, Cari, everyone at Stardock - you're doing such an awesome job. Now, I'm not too far, so I'm not saying ti's bug-free... but just the graphical enhancements and such are so perfect. Wow, wow, wow, wow.

I do have a question. Will you be able to implement a gameplay option so your auto-moves (on autpilot) move at the beginning of your turn instead of after you hit the end turn button? If not, that's totally OK... it'd just make planning remaining moves easier. Thanks, gonna play til I can't stay awake anymore tonight!

Maybea stupid question, but how do I download this through the Stardock Central? I have checked of "Show Pre-release updates" and tried selecting "Check for application updates" but no 1.1 beta is to be seen anywhere

EDIT: Nevermind. Just noticed that it can be downloaded directly by clicking that icon in the bottom of this news-item. Strange, considering we were told that it would be available only through the Stardock Central app

Very nice changes. About 20 minutes in my beta game crashed, but I liked what I saw. I think I'll go back to the non beta and wait for the official release.

I hope an option to only allow tech trading between alliance members is in the works.

I had to take it down a notch. I had an excellent start with a TON of mining resources. Then the Alterians and Drengin were like.. HAHA U R GUNNA GET WOR NOW!! LOLZ!!! and sort of just steam rolled me.

Wow! The Ai just smoked me That's quite a welcome change. Every single AI was hostile to me because I didn't have an army. Their transports came out of nowhere and crushed my planets defenses with ease. Hrm, maybe I'll lower my difficulty level for a while

Anyway, I love all the changes so far, except it seems like the high end techs are available way too early now. The AI are all researching different techs, so it's easy to cherry pick them off the AI. I can get trade goods and 4-5 good techs with one or two logistics or miniturization techs, which doesn't seem right. Last game that I got smoked I had invention matrix, industrial sector, ultimate miniturization, etc etc all before the first year was coming to a close. I only had about 6 warships and these advanced techs. Hrmmm....?

A few thoughts:

The AI works up technology and colonizes faster on equivalent difficulty ratings.

I got a weird "mouse freeze" bug--which remained when I swapped out of the application. I was actually able to move the mouse and get a cursor on my second monitor (extended desktop), but it remained frozen both in the app and on the Windows desktop on my primary monitor. Very, very weird.

Other than that, it seemed to run OK. Thus far, the weird interspersed "alien contact - speak to - then it goes to sitrep before going to the diplomacy screen" thing still seems unchanged, but the rest is nifty. I like the ship design system better now, much better indeed.

OK, time to go back and restore the mouse-crashed game...

I just wanna say. . .

Stardock, you just crept above Bioware and Blizzard in my books.

Which is along hte lines of Mother Theresa saying that you're more interesting than a filth-ridden street in New Delhi

(server error = you cat edit)
i may have posted this already, and editing my original responce is the only good defence i can think of to make sure i dont in adverntly add to the problem.
so here goes, wish me luck

i think i figured it out "root article" means the 'click to view link' from the original post. witch is where i found the patchm i think

This is why I bought the game.
The feature\patch support is unrivaled, at least from my own experience anyway.

The changes are fantastic!
Great work guys

lol... there isn't a terran Starbase module, (at least not until Brad add a no-trade, no-steal tag to techtree.xml and I mod it to hell), what he meant by terran module in the patch notes is a new subroutine for the terran AI. Anotherwords, he's testing out some new feature and added some code specifically for them in order to test it out. So the only way to 'see' this module (in effect), is to not be playing terrans, and to be playing against them.
