Tight, Loose, Scattered?

I like playing on the larger maps, and it's about time to start a new game as I'm about to hit a military victory. Anyway, what settings seem to produce the best games as far as star densities and all that for you guys?

"BEST" games is just a matter of opinion.

Scattered stars give everyone lots of room to do their thing without getting in each others way.

Tight clusters will see players in small groups fighting over small areas, probably leading to one victor in each cluster early on, leading to a smalle rnumber of large remote empires later on.

Neither's better, they're just different. Everyone at arms length out in the open vs. a couple of small rooms with several people crushed up together.

I've noticed that. It seems scattered makes a lot more larger Empires. It's what I'm noticing on my Terran game right now.

I was vaguely aroused by the subject line.

Anyways, I've always preferred clusters of stars because it makes for more defined empires.

I thought the subject line was refering to my first, second and present wives.

I like playing with tight clusters, rare stars, abundant everything else, and slow tech.

Oh buddy! What have I caused

Problem I noticed with tight is that everyone is on each other meaning some civilizations are gonna get whiped before I even encounter them. I really enjoy playing people off each other. In my current custom race game I have such a massive economy that I am able to have every race war with each other, keep themselves weak, and in the middle of their my fleet appears as a "peace keeping" force and "temporarily" annexes alien planets. I wouldn't be able to do this really on a tight cluster due to empires killing each other off fast

Too bad there is no spiral arm galaxy or core galaxy (cluttered center, spread out on the edges)

Would that be a possibility in a future path to get a spiral arm or a core w/ a rim galaxy set up going? That'd really be cake considering each race could get a nice fair start with those.

In Galciv1 there was a Spiral galaxy update.Maybe there will be 1 in galciv2.

I always play loose clusters. This keeps stars close together, and the clusters aren't very far apart.

I'm sure this one's been done before, but what about a map editor with some random generation functions?
