Campaign-Trade and influence starbases
Well and inner workings of battles

I was wondering - is there no trade at the first campaign missions? I take it that one has to research TRADE before sending freighters around. But I cant find this research anywhere. Disabled? If yes, it would be nice to warn the user beforehand thus preventing him from putting abilities in trade.
Do influence starbases work in enemy territory? I experienced that if you build them inside your area your borders expand. But if you place them in enemy territory nothing comparable happens.
I encountered those heavy Dreadlords at the third mission I think and wanted to conquer them. Useless!
But some things got my attention - their ships are nothing else than a massive bunch of mass drivers. Therefor my goal was to push my ARMOR research and build ships with f.e. Tri-Strontium III in the end. Now I found that sometimes in battles my ships were damaged ranging from only a few HPs to full damage. So what does armor exactly do against mass drivers? Lets say a tiny DL ship with 20 mass drivers against a medium sized ship with 10 armor. How much damage could this ship do to me in one round? 10?
