Engaging pirates problem :(

Can someone help me here - please please please.

There I am on a large map, with techs up to the max gunning for an influence victory. I've supported my planets to the max with starbases, oodles of them, then.....

In come some pirates, made up from dissaffacted officers (presumably from my civ) and they start dessimating my bases, I muster some heavy weappons together end engage - but here's my problem. How do I get more than one fleet (max logistics) to engage at the same time, because the pirates do it. Before I gave up they had multiple fleets engaging me and to top that off, one fleet I looked at was using a logistics of 171 of 194. Completely ruined a very good long game ... and boy didn't I feel violated.

The pirates had been picking off everbody's freighters for a long while before I could muster forces without crippling my finances (custom built battleship at 25000+ a pop was a no no), I understand that hit points increase with battle experience, but does logistics, and my poor comp crashed to a halt when displaying their several hundred ships v my poor old fleet of 5 battleships; even more reason why I gave up.

Any help please ( I am new to this game and might be missing something)!

I've seen pirates with 10 ship fleets of mixed large/med/small fighters with a combined 200ish attack, but certainly nothing as high as hundreds of ships!

The pirates do seem to be levelled so as to give you a real challenge based on the overall level of the galaxy though, and that's good! It'd be pointless having them in there if they were easy to beat with a simple fleet.

Have you tried leading them with a trail of breadcrumbs (sacrificed ships) over towards an enemy stronghold?
Wearing the fleet down with fleets of disposable engine/life support/defence-less one shotsuicide ships strong enough to take out a ship at a time?
How about luring them over to your four overlapping maxed out military starbases and smack them down with masses of pumped up mini fighters?

I know it doesn't help you now, but with good strategy you can easily take out an enemy 10x stronger than you.

Have you build a Galactic Privateer improvement? It's supposed to keep your stuff safe from Pirates... Or at least your shipping lanes anyway. Every time I build one I never see pirates on my turf; they just plague everyone else.

I don't want them to be a push over thats for sure, but what I came up against was crazy, the numbers I example is no exaggeration and against them I just cannot compete. I have the game saved and have tried a few different things. But my main problem them is I can only engage them with one fleet at a time, but they engage me, with at least as equally powerful ships, with numerous fleets at a time. I did manage to kill one battleship but it cost me four in return, and I did try to counter with the right weapon/ defence combo .

Anyone know if it is possible to engage with more than one fleet in the same battle? thats my problem really, I might be missing something as I'm still very new to this game and this whole genre TBH

I've got fleet defence and freighter protection buildings, it didin't the freighters much good, although mine were the last to be destryed compared to the other civs

Not entirely sure what you mean engage with a fleet multiple times. As long as you got movement points you should be able to 'initiate' combat, regardless how many fleets you have. You can attack the same target twice. You cannot however combine the two fleets for a singe concerted attack if you have them in the stack. Meaning, suppose you have two maxed out logistics fleets on a single square. If you use one of your fleets from that square to attack an opponent (or defend against one) you can not "drag" the other fleet along for the ride.
If you mean your fleet can only shoot once, well that means you ships are getting destroyed in one round sorry mate.

Personally i've never had that problem in my games. But the pirates always seem to have just enough firepower to cut through my starbase defense and they seem to have a special place in their heart for my mining starbases

It would be nice if you could attack with multiple fleets at the same time against a powerful fleet, but then it'd remove the whole point of having fleets. Single fleets only, unfortunately.

With them so much more powerful, killing you in one shot, there's only one way you can fight back.

1) Put nothing on but enough weapons to kill one of their ships in a single shot (everything else is a waste of money and build time)
2) Be the attacker

This will at least give you a 1 for 1 exchange on your ships for theirs, excluding what they take out in their turn.

At least they dont have transports, so if you're at war with no one cocentrate on research to attain the most powerful weapons, defence and miniaturization to at least the half of the miniaturization branch

With one huge ship with one engine, the rest weapons and defenses, mabye a life support for later use and a sensor if you dont have the "eye of the universe" wonder you can do massive damage to one fleet if your ship is destroyed

Warning: very high cost and maintenance avoid to build more than two or three.

I agree with you about limiting fleet sizes, but what I don't understand is why the pirates don't experience the same logistical restrictions i.e. 34 max (AFAIK), not only that but they are able to engage me with multiple fleets ate the same time, where as when I try to do the same; selecting stacked fleets and ordering them to engage, my fleets attack ONE fleet at a time, which AFAIK is the way it is mean't to be, but the rule doesn't seem to apply to them I wonder if this could be a bug?
