Possible movement bug

Movement bug, or AI stupidity

I noticed this in a game I was playing pretty early on but I never really gave it much thought, I'm now a good way into it and I've noticed it again. During the opening turns my Flagship stumbled upon two other flag ships, Dregan and some other one, and they, like me, were heading towards a wormhole. Fortunately I got there first however the two Flagships of the respective races simply stopped and haven't moved since. It's as if they had a job of heading towards the wormhole but once I got there first and removed that variable they didn't have a backup to do so simply ceased to operate. I simply thought "all the better for me" and continued on but I seemed to have noticed it again. the Dragans and I were at war with a 3rd race (again still haven't played the game enough to know all the different races ) and we were both sending fleets to take a planet. My transports got there first and we took the planet in the ensuing land battle however the Dragan fleet on the way as well simply stopped moving and thats about 3-4 ships in two fleets.

Is this a bug or are they simply INCREDIBLY patient in waiting for a new oportunity to present itself?

Hopefully things will get better on that front with 1.1

It's quite sad seeing them get a few parsecs from completing their mission only to have them stop and go "oh, um, well we can't do that any more."

...."Captain, what do we do now?"

I had a similar thing on a large sandbox map recently; one of the other races (I forget which one) send colony ships to the same planets as me but a turn behind. I colonised them first and thought "bugger, they are going to rush off and take some more now" but the colony ships only entered orbit of my colonies and waited forever.

Usually that happens when there are no more available colonies and they are just waiting for you to decide to leave thei planet to them when you get tired of playing the game!!!!

You know, i think its both. becuase its happened to me too, but i took advantage of it and crused like 3 fleets just waiting for no reason. but if you click and tem and veiw info, or send a scout of whatnot to go whoop butt, they "snap out of it"

sometimes.

Not always. (forgot to add last post) they ofve away after like 20-30 turns then they wait at their homeplanet.
its the unsovalble mystery!!!!

Once they've run out of things to do, they do tend to just stop. The AI tends to use Flagships purely for anomalies - once they've gone, it parks it there forever. They use scouts to explore.... it would be a good idea if the AI could switch from using the flagship survey routine to the explore one. You will also notice that when scouts find something they're interested in, they tend to stay there for a while - this isn't such a problem as it gives them a view of whats occurring there.
