Wanted : Ability to build low level structures

I would like to see the ability to build lower grade structures than what's the highest available. Sometimes you still may come across a planet in mid-game which hasn't been touched yet, or you may be lucky to get some heavy tech bonuses and race through some of the early techs. When you colonise these planets, you're forced to build the highest level of what is available, and I hate that. You're either forced to pay a lot of money to purchase it right away (unless you do the payment plan) or you're forced to wait an ungodly amount of time for construction to finish.

You should have the option to build any level of what's been researched so far, so you can at least quickly get some basic structures down without having to wait forever.

I hope this hasn't been suggested before, but I haven't seen a thread on it yet.

Me too. Please.

I thought it was a game design decision to have it done that way to challenge you to lay down all your tiles before teching up to the next level (more efficient that way). Would definately make the game easier, otherwise...

You do.... it's called CASH!

And I mean that in total seriousness!

It would be nice if you could continue to build ent centers after multimedia is researched. The ent centers are 1 maintenance, the multimedia is two, and you get only 5% morale from it. And then you've got things like research academies whose build costs are obscene. Let me build research centers instead! Better yet, on a 300% food tile I don't WANT to build a xeno farm. I want a basic farm.

Yeah, get given an undeveloped planet late with best factories and it's like 9000 BC's to build one or about 2 years! Then even with one down it's still a long time to get second up and running.

But at that point of the game your economy is humming. So you either buy the industrial sectors or you just don't bother with that planet given that the rest of your empire is already capable of building all that you need. At this late point in the game, I tend to have 2-300k in the bank, a few 9000 purchases barely makes a dent.

Your play style. In mine I'm having to make the decision of whether to stop at Enhanced Factories, Manufacturing Centers, or Industrial Sectors before the colonization phase is over. Going as far as Industrial Sectors while you're still colonizing is great for your core worlds, but it kills the new colonies, and you might as well give them to the AI. Yes, I've made it to Industrial Sectors in the colonization phase, and yes it was a mistake.

Same holds true even late game when you're doing a culture push. 9K BC may not sound like much when you have 300K BC in the treasury, but if you're rush-buying 3-5 of them a turn (and that's if you're only doing one per planet), then that treasury isn't going to last long.

Options options options... the more options they can give us the better all around. Hard to say if this would be plausible for them to do but I too would like there to be times where I can build the older structures. The times this comes up most often is when I conquer an enemy planet that has either been wiped of its structures by the AI or me. In order to get this forward base up and running I either need to spend a bunch of bcs or wait the 300 wks for the first manufacturing center.

So yeah it would be nice to have the option of building the older buildings and then let the governor upgrade them later.

I think it would needlessly complicate the game so I'm not for it. I think we have enough of build options ATM, I don't want to be stuck micromanaging some new world for the first 30 turns of its existance where I got bigger fish to fry.

You wouldnt be stuck micromanaging. You could just queue up the manufacturing sectors and be done with it. Or, you could merely queue up the base level structures, and let the governor auto-upgrade them once up and running. We dont want to not build manufacturing sectors, we want to be able to build up to them in an efficient manner.
