Textures not loading

For some reason textures on planets and suns work but ship textures don't work in my games. I don't have disable ship textures activated and i've restarted the game and cpu after dl the latest directx drivers and i've also updated my video card drivers. I currently have a Dell 1503FP (analog) on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400. I have 256mb of ram if that helps. Anyone know why my ship textures don't work?

I had two problems to start this game.
It didn't start @ all.
Set your windows screen in 32bits mode.

And to fix the spaceship texture problem.
Set your windows operating system @ English USA.

You can do this by going in windows to the control panel and landsettings. (or something like that dont have an english windows)

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

This card is rather old. You can get a really nice (compared to this one especially) new card for like $60. It'd be an investment you'd be well off to make in my opinion.

" Its already on english usa."
please check the numeric notation (https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=109533) it seems sometimes windows doesn't do the same when switching the language settings. On some systems the notation isn't changed and this is the problem of galciv2 at the moment, the language itselve is meaningless.

There are two people posting here, Grime and Guimly. Guimly needs to run Windows in English. ***Grime needs to post the debug.err file from his GalCiv2 folder.

Hehe, yeah, that's why I posted his fix. Running Windows in a language other than English is known to cause the textures to drop from planets, etc.

Guimly needs to run Windows in English.

I don't see how this was unclear, but if he changes Windows to run in English, he should see the planet textures.

Well looks like most of your settings are good except for the sound drivers. There was someone with a MX 400 or 440 a few weeks back that had the same problem I think. He ended up getting a newer card and it fixed it. Just to understand your problem, are you seeing the 3D ship models and not the textures on them? Or are they appearing as icons and not as 3D models?
Won't let me edit so:

-Make sure you have anti-aliasing turned off.

EDIT: It's fixed? Alrighty then...
Yeah i'm only seeing the 3D models and not the textures on them.
Lol, you know, when you no longer have the problem, it would be nice of you to post what solved the problem.

I never had a texture problem. I turned off anti-aliasing to fix stutter. I'm in US so my version of Windows is the US English version by default. I played the first day, no problems. Second day, loaded save game, no problems. Same day I downloaded Galactopedia, loaded saved game, still no problems. Third day I load saved game and I see blue bubbles instead of ships. This is for any saved game, even a different one. Since it worked before I'm going to assume everything is okay at my end. Anyone have this problem? Thanks in advance.
The same textures problem in Demo
But it works OK after changing number format in Control Panel
Reply #18 Top
I'm posting this here because everything I post goes into the "my posts" screen. As an aside, can anyone tell me how to create a new post on the bug forum? I have bug forum selected but it never shows up. Thanks

I keep trying to post, but it won't post, lol. What's up? I posted before, but obviously something went wrong, so I'll make this brief. The textures were fine for 2 days. Yes, I turned my PC off at night. On the 3rd day the planets became white circles, suns were still okay, and ships were blue bubbles. I'm in the US so US fix doesn't apply to me. I have the 1.0X and the "enable the options which should have been enabled anyway" patches. My question is why did the game work for 2 days, then bug out on the 3rd? I was playing a game which I was able to load before without problems. Even new games have this problem now. Debug below. Thanks in advance. Nice game, btw... but nicer with graphics, lol. I can run 3 instances of Eve-Online, I run WoW, DAoC, I run them all. First time this ever happened to me. Besides, it worked for 2 days.

That's probably the problem right there; your video drivers are more than a year and a half old. Update them and see if that fixes it (it probably will).
I doubt it's the video driver, though you may be right. This particular driver runs all my games without the need to constantly change drivers And the game ran troublefree for two days.

I just saved GalCiv2 as GalCiv2.bak in the My Documents\My Games files. Uninstalled everything using control panel then uninstalled what was left manually, including StarDock, then reinstalled everything and moved a save game file and a few ship files. I did not use the latest patch since I wanted to finish my game (not sure if that makes a difference). No problems. Works just as well as it did 3-4 days ago, lol. Video drivers? Maybe, but I don't think so. Might be a flukey option setting I made in GC2 or possibly Galactopedia changed something by mistake, or the .Net 2 Framethingie I had to install to run Galactopedia, but even these seem like wild guesses. Works now again though. I'll be back if it bugs out again, then I might consider a newer video driver. If you don't hear from me, the problem did not recur. Thanks to all.

It's possible I may have seen a bit of the European bug in my US version. As my earlier posts state I had almost identical problems. Here's an interesting bug I saw before the textures went out a day later (all still works okay after my reinstall, btw):

I was changing stats/abilities on my custom character a few times. I started a new game and behold, I had the new character in an older saved game??? Looks like some data went where it wasn't supposed to go. I don't remember if the game crashed out (I don't remember any crashes while playing this game... but my memory...) or if I just quit and re-entered. Nonetheless, a misdirection of information, which seems to be the problem with the European bug... the game does not recognize where the files are. Thought I would bring this up to see if it helps anyone. I know the info is sparse. Thanks.

Well it looks like lots of people have this problem. It sure pisses me off. I look at the ships on the box and I'm like "wow". Then i get home and install it and I'm like "WTF?!??!?!". Anyways it told me i had low disk space and so i just ignored it and played right now its cleaning ALOT of space. Maybe that will work, if it doesnt im downloading a new driver for my NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Yeah i know what a peice of junk right?). if all else fails I'll come back here, If one thing worked then I'll come back and tell you what helped

I've had what may be your problem if we both mean the same thing by "it won't open". They game appears to be "not responding" when installing. I waited 20-30 seconds, the install seemed to be hanging and alt-cntrl-del said the game was not responding. I think you can ignore that message (if you by chance hit alt-cntrl-del to see what's up). Just sit tight for 2-3 minutes, the game is indeed loading, at least that's how it went for me. Hope this helps. Thanks.
