Character Creation not working?

Hi All:

This is my first post on these forums. I've tried several times to create a character on the metavers, but it doesn't seem to be working. I log in, click "add player", enter a name and my serial number and then click add character (I didn't add an image, but that's not flagged as a required field". When I then hit "add character" I get a window that says "processing data"... and that's it! Nothing happens after that.... it just seems to hang on "processing data". At first I thought it was just slow, but after waiting 15-20 minutes I'm pretty sure that it's just not working. I've tried to create a character using both IE and FF, and exactly the same thing happens with either browser. I've also tried doing it from work and from a friend's house, and I get the same problem.

Any suggestions? Or is new character creation down? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. The processing Data window has been up for about half an hour now and I doubt it's gonna change heh...

I'm having the same problem. I would love to join the Metaverse. This site needs more bandwidth and more responiveness overall. Spend a little of the money you've earned guys!!

What browser are y'all using? I was getting the exact same behavior / result, with it just hanging at "processing data". Suppose it might just be timing / luck, but as soon as I loaded up Internet Explorer and tried with it (instead of Firefox & Opera), it worked.

If the Metaverse Create/Edit character does in fact only work with the crappiest / most insecure browser out there, it really sucks - a number of us delete IE from our systems for performance/security reasons.

As far as I can tell, the Metaverse login only works with IE on a Windows platform. It did not work on Firefox on either Windows or MAC OS X.

Hi there, i have the same problem..."Processing Data..." and thats it.

I tried Opera, Firefox AND Internet Explorer nothing worked.

Try it with the current version of firefox.

I have lots of problems with the forums using IE or Opera.
I installed firefox - no problems...
Forums that time out on opera works fine in firefox.
Created my character without a problem in firefox.
This is a firefox loving site.
At least its not IE.

Got that Processing-Data-Forever thing
Tried it with IE, don't know if it is the actual version, but sounds not so bad (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519). No chance.
Tried Firefox 1.0.6 and 1.0.7.
No chance.
Upgraded to Firefox 1.5.0.1.
WORKS!
So get latest FIREFOX and you are fine.

Every time I create a character and leave the site and comeback, My characters disappear. I try to readd the characters but I get the message that my characters are already taken.

If you are using Firefox please make sure you have updated to the latest version. The metaverse only supports firefox and IE.

Help! I am trying to create my first character. I start the game and click on Metaverse. I login. The next window asks me if I want to create a character. I click on 'yes'. The window disappears and nothing happens. Is something going on I can't see? Am I too impatient??

Also, the Metaverse home page says it is populated with Test Data and will be wiped clean on 21 Feb??? What gives?

I'm trying to create a character as well. Every time I create one though I get the message that I've used incorrect characters when I haven't. Help?

Well, it's not working for me either. I'm using the latest version of Firefox but the "processing data" problem is all I can get. I've tried many times over the past week, until I'm quite sick of typing in that godawful-long reg #, but no luck.
Any other ideas?

Coastie74 - The bit about the test data is from an old index file that overwrote what we had up there. We'll be taking care of that soon.

I have also just downloaded the latest version of firefox ( since it was updated to 1.5.0.2 recently ) to confirm that the metaverse still works properly and am unable to reproduce any processing data hang or dissappearing windows. If you're not using IE and still having issues, you can post information on your system and your browser and we can try to investigate further, or you can use IE for the metaverse. As for typing in the long registration number, I would reccomend typing it into notepad or similar and using Copy/Paste.

So you're saying I should do it the easy way instead of the hardest way possible?
You're right--I thought I'd updated my Firefox but I grabbed an old version or something...it worked fine with the new one.
This game truly rocks! Thanks for a great game and such excellent support!

Hey guys, I am also new here.
I was able to create a character, but everytime I login to my account in-game, it tells me I need to make a character, even though I already have one... Anyone know whats up with that?

Uh wow I just realized WHY this isnt working... Apparently I have two accounts... One is Acidpoptart while the other is acidpoptart[at]my email[dot]com. Uhhh I should get that fixed...


OK UPDATE 2! Ends up they dont have proper checks in place during account creation... I actually had two accounts, with the same nick name, and same email address! I have changed my account name to NNikzad and have also changed my email address, thus fixing and conflicts... yuck!

Ok, thats strange. I tried to play my first metaverse game and it told me to create a character first. Firefox (1.5.02) started and all I got to see was a blank black page with your pages frame around and the "Buy GalCiv2" button on top.
Then i tried to login manually, but choosing "Edit My Characters" didn`t help, the page was displayed with those empty character fields, but none of the red buttons you use to create/change/reset your character appeared.
Then I started Internet Explorer (*caugh* you forced me to) and it worked.

You have to know, I'm just booting into Windows for playing games that aren't available under Linux and it must have been more than 5 or 6 years that I last started Internet Explorer, so I felt like Guybrush Threepwood

Now after finishing my first metaverse game I rebooted into my prefered OS (Debian Linux) and tried the "Edit My Characters" screen from within Firefox 1.5.02 Linux, which works as expected. Seems the problem only occurs with Firefox under Windows XP (german?!).
