Tech trade heavily schewed in 1.0

Greetings,

I have noticed trading tech is not as profitable as it used to. That is all well and good, and I understand the reasons, but it is really overdone. For example, I am waaay ahead of everyone else in technology. This race is struggling to get some low-level armor, and has 10.000bc credits or so. Yet, when I try to sell them zero-point armor I only get 600bc?????

On the other hand, if I want to purchase gal. stock exchange from them, I have to bend over with 1000's of credits?? This isn't right IMO.

What's your diplomatic rating compared to them?

Also, certain races are tightwads (most notably Terrans and Altarians)

Nothing new in strategy genre. Try tradign tech in Civ4, you get the shaft as well. Every game I've played the AI is always ripping you off and there simply no way to get an even trade. Being that the human player always looses in a trade, trading with AI is never profitable to the player. However the trade brokering scenerio yielded cash benefits, even if not technological benefits. Still I hated doing it and Im glad it's gone.

Simply it came from the fact that no AI would see an advantage in keeping a tech from an opponent that they know the opponent will eventually get their hands on anyway. Human however can easily see a benefit in withholding something from the ai. Like holding back all soldiering techs few months before major invasion fo the enemy worlds. Trading soildier tech before invasion is just plain retarded because it will result in hugely bigger losses.

So the biggest problem isn't that tech trade goes on, it's that it doesn't stop. I love the no tech trading option and I shall be using it. Even thou I also liked using the technology to further my political gains, like giving a good weapon tech to AI at war with my enemy.

i hope you mean 1.0X.010, cause if you have 1.1, i'm sure the SD guys would like to know how you solved the problems they're probably working on, LOL

Why shouldn't he be refering to 1.1?
From what I understand, it's Beta is available using Stardock Central...

Besides, I never had issues with trading tech in 1.0X...

Under 1.0X I have the opposite problem. Playing on a gigantic map, with tons of minors and 9 majors, so far selling tech + trade goods has been an incredible cash cow. Sometimes, with some nations (in my game Arceans and Yor didn't much like me), individual tech trades weren't so great, but when I look at it collectively, its just generating *way* too much cash...

I really have to say that it depends on your diplomacy to theirs, you can get a lot higher cash worth out of a tech with a higher diplomacy rating.

Also, the human can always profit from the AI - that I think, is far more of a concern to most people. When the human wants to sell a tech, they can just do the rounds of all the AI and sell that tech to everyone. Even if the first sale makes a loss, the consequent ones make up a huge profit.

Unless the AI gets better at researching in the next patch, I wont be using the no tech trade option. At present, after the initial hustle the AI gets in researching where it steams ahead, once I catch up there's just no return for it. By mid-game I always have a substantial lead on all the AI's, even with them pooling their techs (which they dont do so much with the latest patch anyway)

Corrected title.  1.1's tech trading algorithm is basically rewritten. And the only one who has 1.1's AI is me.

Aah sorry guys, I was sloppy. Of course I meant 1.0X.010. I'm very interested to see what 1.1 brings!!

edit: thanks frogboy!

I agree with the comment of just how powerful high diplomacy is when trading techs for BC with 4+ AI races. It's my winning strategy on Suicidal. I think the AI needs to pay vastly more for ships (atleast when they are at war), though. It's just not profitable to do at all, currently.
