Leaving the UN?

What does it do

What happens when you leave the UN? I've wanted to on two occasions. One when they passed a no trade attack law and once when it passed a law limiting the evil civilization to 3 trade routes (it destroyed my economy).

Does everyone attack you? Has anyone tried it yet?

The player does have the option of leaving the United Planets, but only at the expense of losing all trade revenue.

So.. that would probably be even worse than having your civilization be limited to 3 trade routes.

True- you leave, you can't trade at all.

But at least you get to stick it to the man (in blue)!

But can you imagine a situation where you would want to leave the UN??

I remember back in MOO1, the diplomatic victory was only yours if you were voted the UN leader
and if you were not, you had the choice to accept the leader (lose the game) or leave the UN and try to beat the newly formed galactic alliance where every race other became as one

that was crazy

Are there any benefits to leaving the UN? Does it mean you are not affected by their previous and future decisions?

The advantage is you're not affected by the UN laws the catch is you can't trade and mabye something that affect dipomacy. The only reason why I sould leave the UN is limited starbases modules if I use a lot of starbases and anyway most of my economy is based on taxes and tourism.

that' true. I left the UN due to a bug in the constructor speed vote (all my constructor were limited to speed whitout engine). You lose all trade route (can still trade via diplomacy tho) and are free of all UN decision past and future.

When they do that trade route thing for evil empires, I just research xeno ethics and buy my way back to neutral.

I left the UN once because I was getting the... tar... beat out of me and was struggling to save every credit to get myself out of debt enough to build more ships. At the time, the UN laws were costing me a big chunk of change so I left so I could reinvest that money in my own empire. By that time though, it was too little too late. I was crushed so I was never able to recover and find out if not being a member of the UN would hinder me once I was back on my feet.

That’s what I did, but I still had to rebuild my trade routes. Thankfully the ships I had out at the time were way above the norm of the galaxy. I ended up with an alliance win. The UN thing was only one of the two major setbacks I had in that game.

I quit once over the 4 modules on a starbase vote. The game was mostly over, just me and one other major player. I blew up his remaining bases (no idea if he stayed in the UN, alone), and took him out. Trade was done by that point anyway because there were two of us, each with half the galaxy, and it was time for war.

I seriously considered quitting UN when they passed that 20% income tax for warring races. Decided instead to go for cultural victory instead though. Kind of nice when the game forces you from your anticipated victory plan.

I left the UN after they decided to pass a law saying only 3 modules per starbase, no thanks. No trade didn't really dent my economy.

I had to leave the UN because of two reasons,

The first was a 2 ....yes 2 modules on starbase vote after I had a nice three planet economy going useing the infulence of economy starbases very early in the game.

The second reason was that my bestest friend with whom I had 7 trade routes with turned against me because I wiped out some plant on a planet to make room for a city, said I was evil, so I lost all my trade. I had nothing to lose so I pull out and ended winning the game due to the fully ugraded economy starbases, 7 in all, Earth was a powerhouse and could produce a capital ship in 4 turns. Two of these ships in a fleet destroyed a "Ranger" first time out with minimal damage.

Not really inpresesd on the trade side if your going out to start a fight. Starbases rock.

The big question I ahve, is if you leave the union do all the computer players stick to it's rules? Are there votes in the fture you are not involved in? Seem's like if starbases got limite, leaving would be a huge advantage!

"The big question I ahve, is if you leave the union do all the computer players stick to it's rules?"

My understanding is if you leave rules dont apply to you Good or Bad. Leaving ment I won the game.

But do the computer players still have to abide after you leave?

something i wonder about
evil races make money from trade that passes thru thu their influence, does that still continue?
and can you still trade with minor races?
if the answer to both is yes then evil can get by quite nicely without the UP in certain situations
I played a game where the UP limited all evil races to 1 trade rout... meaning that it would have actually been profitable for me to leave if i could still trade with minors, I didnt because i wasnt sure and i was rich anyway but on higher skill levels i wonder...
i suspect that leaving UP in certain specific situations is a sensible and profitable move

If they had moved to only 1 trade route, I would have left and destroyed everyone. The allys I had left anyway were weak to begin with with crappy planets not worth the time to take over.
