BETA version of v1.1 THIS WEEK!

BETA version of v1.1 THIS WEEK!

Things moving fast...

We've got a ton of new features, tweaks, and enhancements in store for v1.1.  For casual players, the AI plays easier on lower levels.  For expert strategists, the AI has gotten a significant overhaul in tactics across the board.

We've made a ton of tweaks both large and small based on player feedback.  Little things like the selected ship showing the auto pilot path it's on to bigger changes like no tech trading options, fleet managers, tons of "glitch fixes", an enhanced ship design option, and much more.

The Beta will be on Stardock Central so you'll need to grab that if you haven't already from the Downloads section.

I think people will be surprised at how significant some of the improvements are, especially for how short of a time the game has been out.  We'll have a full development log put together soon. It's going to be long - longer than originally planned.

The beta won't be the full feature set we mentioned previously as we added other things along the way (streamlined economic engine, no social wastage, bunch of other things).  Stay tuned! !FROGCARE!

What is the gameplay arguement for no tech-trading option?

I need to know if the beta will be just like regular update for the game so I can install it and not have to have 2 gaems on my harddrive :/ Also will I be able to submitt games I played in beta to metaverse?

The beta will work like regular update on SDC: you will donwload only the new files. But you need to check at the bottom of SDC the small check box to see pre-release versions.

Frogboy,

I will be in the Detroit area next week. Can I bring you guys something? Change of clothes? Restock the HotPockets? Some new magazines? You don't seem to ever leave the office so I thought you could use a delivery. It must be getting kinda ripe in those offices...

What is the gameplay arguement for no tech-trading option?

There is a big thread in the Main forums...something like "Unlimited Tech Trading breaks 4X games".

In a nutshell, the type of tech trading in GC2 makes it too easy (for some players). Once you research a tech, you can turn around and sell it to all the others for major bucks. Also, if you see that an AI has a unique tech, you can purchase it off of him and turn around and sell it to all the others for major BC's as well.

Now, even if you personally decided to not trade 'important' techs to other AI's, the AI's themselves go crazy among themselves, making very homogenious civilizations (tech-wise).

I'm looking forward to the 'option' of no tech trading. I only hope they make the proper changes to the AI (Drengin tactics, value of minors, etc)

This is probably a rediculous question, but I am clueless. I hear the word "beta" and I think it must be the trial version. So, I will download the beta, and then some time later the real v1.1 comes out? Is the beta being released in order to get feedback for the real thing?

Another idea would be to make it so that a certain level of friendliness would be required before the AI would trade with you. This could be adjustable.

AI only trades tech with: Warm, Friendly, Close, Ally, All, Not At War, etc.

#35 Derekroth. Yes thats the idea the beta patch tests it for those users who like to break their games seriously its to get a broad test to see if the changes they made have impacts beyond what they intended. If you don't like your game crashing or it expereincing unexpected quirkiness then stay away from most betas.

Once the stardock crew feel they have a representative sampling of the problems (if any) that users will be experiencing and they patch them then they release it to the rest of us poor saps who are too scared to be without a working GC2 for even an hour.

Re: Tech Trading.

Further on this, though I am exicted about this option, I would like to see an 'in-between' option (rather than all or nothing).

As has been noted in other threads (and even this one), some suggestions could be:

1) Allowing you to trade only the tech your empire has researched (you'd still be able to get tech from other civ's, you'd just not be able to turn around and trade it to other AI's). This would make it so that the existing AI (ie. Dregin extorting other civ's for tech) wouldn't need to be changed as much.

2) Traded tech doesn't give you the Tech that turn. Rather, it provides 50-75% 'researched' bonus to that tech (i.e. you'd still need to do the remaining 25-50% research on your own). Much more 'realistic', as it does take time to assimilate new technologies.

3) Allow trading only between trade partners, or make it 'relationship' dependant.

Great.

Is anyone else having problems logging into SDC?

This has been discussed ad nauseum across too many threads and different forums .

Maybe because it is not ready yet

Did you read this in the first post?

The operative words being "will be" and not "is". The headline on page one says "This week", so have a little patience.

I am soory my english is not that good, but according with grammar rules the phrase "if you haven't" indicates action already happening. But what I know, Spanish is my first language.

Yes, we all did.

'The Beta will be on Stardock...' means that it will be available in the future, not now.

Will current save games be compatible with the 1.1. beta? I am about to start a new game, but don't want to if it won't be compatible with 1.1 - in that case, I will just wait impatiently for 1.1 to release

don't forget that SDC will be the only way to download the beta (you need to check the pre-release versions). And SDC allows you to make an archive before updating, which is a wise thing to do

Frogboy,

Fantastic work... if only more development companies took your approach. So many of them are out there blowing their own trumpets and comparing themselves to "lesser" companies and going "See, look how good we are". Now there is a company they can compare themselves to and say "Geez... are we *that* far behind?"

As a side note... how will the new beta, and indeed v1.1 effect currently saved games?

1. Can you play v1.0X games with the beta?
2. If I play and save a game with the beta and it had to be wound back, could it be played with v1.0X?

Just to make sure I understand;
The beta won't be the full feature set ...
means that there will be more features with the actual 1.1 release, correct? If that's the case, I'm pretty darn impressed.
