Two really annoying bugs - one of them to do with ship construction which is game ruining :(

Any help would be great!

Hi, I am getting 2 bugs that I really notice when playing galactic civilizations 2. The star background doesn't seem to load properly and sometimes, a large proportion of it appears white. If it appears is completly random as I can get rid of the white part by saving and then reloading until there is no white anywhere. More annoyingly, I don't seem to be able to add certain components to my ships when I custom build them. I have never been able to access any shields or life support components or phasor 2 for instance. Is there any way around these problems- especially the second one!?!

have you researched techs that give you these components? You can't built what you don't know.

star background? I am not sure what do you mean by that. (backgound on the main map, ship yard, planet detail screen, or other screen?) do you have a screen shot of it?

Yes, I have researched all the techs and some components will just not appear to be selected.

I mean the star background on the main map ( purely visual backdrop). Instead of it all being black, there will be a white square of varying size.

yeah he/she can, it's generated starting from game startup
I'd like to see the video specs too, as I suspect that might be the problem for the star background

I've noticed the issue with weapon placement too. Sometimes if you remove a weapon you can't readd the same weapon again until you choose another object to add first.

No, the shield and sensor issue isn't just a case of not being able to add it - no shields or life support modules appear in the list to even select. It is as if I am missing a whole file on them. The shield category is present but there are no actual shields in them.

The wierd thing is though that I've tried reinstalling a few times and the same issue occurs. Any ideas?

I reported a similar bug a couple of weeks ago. I don't see Stinger 2, 3, or 4 missiles. The information on those techs in the research screen when I select them doesn't even indicate that there are any new ship components for those techs and, of course, they don't show up in the ship builder at all. I'm stuck with Stinger 1 missiles until I research up into the next line of missiles.

Gets pretty annoying in games where I'd like to switch to missiles because of the huge hole for me between Stinger 1 and whatever missile comes after the Stinger line (heh, I don't even remember the name because I've pretty much had to play without missiles so far).

There are multiple tabs on the weapons and defense parts screen. Are you sure that you are on the correct tab?

The start of your debug.err lists your hardware and drivers being used so if you could post that then we could see if it was a hardware or driver issue.

Yeah I was just about to say that. Considering the first problem is clearly graphically related Invi , you need to show us what drivers and hardware you are using! Better hope you have it all up to date or you are going to get moaned at!!

Both of these could actually be ascribed to some kind of graphical conflict.... it would be nice to get a screenshot of your shipbuilder too if you can manage it.
