Ship Gifts Gone Wrong

???

During negotiations with several minor races who have found themselves being crushed by their larger neighbors, I gave some of them a few older ship designs I had in my inventory in an attempt to help them stave off total destruction (their enemy is also mine). Yet, these wonderful gifts are all still sitting in my space where they were originally, even though they have been transfered out of my control. it's my impression that the game engine simply doesn't know what to do with these ships. Is this a bug or have these minor races lied to me about their impending doom just to steal ships from me?

Heh. I've noticed the same thing. What I do to solve this problem is:

1) Move fleet next to world being attacks by the enemy
2) Disband fleet
3) Trade the fleet to the AI who owns the world being attacked

Althought I find it inneficient to use fleets in this way. It's better to just attack the offender myself with ships that can win. That way, I keep my military strength, rather than giving it away to another AI which will either A) Lose the war, or B) Win, and keep your ships.

The sad thing is, there appears to be no option (that the AI will recognize and be grateful for) to do that. I guess they really want those ships.

I generally see them take the ships I give them, but as soon as the war is over, the ships stop in place and are not used again.

That's not a bad idea, but I want to avoid a head-on war with this large empire. At this point I prefer to let proxies (minor races) do the damage and take the heat. Giving them slightly older tech ships keeps me out of the fighting but able to inflict pain. Kinda like what the Soviet Union and USA did to each other for 50 years I might assume that maybe the conflict between the large and minor race has ended, but they contunually ask me for aid in their struggle. I finally decided that I'd given them enough and they weren't even using that. I think this is a bug.

Hahaha, Last night I gave several of my Cruisers to the Snathi (evil squirrels) and in short order they became the second most dominate race in the galaxy (my tech rating was 300+ and I was the only race with medium and large combat vessels) They certainly figured out how to use them... however I noticed that when I gave the same style ships to the I league the ships just sat in my space until they were destroyed... It may be that the enemy will only start using the gift ships when they're "local" (ie in their sphere of influence)...

I have seen ships sit a turn or two and then move also. Sometimes the ships never move but normally they do after a few turns.

For what i know, my map was a 4/4, got a luky turn of precursors, my situation was badly, AI chalenging ( just starting to play the game hehehehe ) , use these super pwerup to negotiat pace with the 2/3 of the moust powerfull civs ( one olready dead otherone friendly with me ) the ask for tech then sold like half for cash and trade with all the rest.
I anded up with some cash that i was short off and some really great boost to mi techs.
As now i was in peace with all and there still was the 2 ( ex enemy -1 friend ) war these ships i traded star to move and fight as normaly they should if they where made by the AI.

Dear Ambassador Darth:Thank you for the gift of the Starfurys, however our local high school said that they studied ancient ship technologies in junior high.
