Sensor range bug

I forget what it was, but I got or built something that increased my overall sensor range to about 15 parsecs. Now the game won't let me build anything with longer range than that. I built a long-range surveillance spy ship that SHOULD have a sensor range of 23 parsecs, but it won't see anything past 15. See the screenshot:

It's not a bug. 15 parsecs is the maximum sensor range. It was changed to that a couple of patches back.

It is "Eyes of the Universe"

There is a cap on sensor range to limit it to 15. It is the the 1.0D changelog.

Once Eyes of the Universe is built, its not necessary anymore for any sensor things, since its increasing all vessels and starbases sensor range to 15.

In general this is kinda lame, since it makes sensor stuff unimportant, also sensoring is easy and fast to tech.

I agree with the Eyes of the Universe. It needs to be changed as not to not make an entire tech branch useless.

Yeah I've come to the same conclusion. It seems like the benefit of Eyes of the Universe is factored in from before the patch (1.0D.... cheers Phoenix! ) when range was unlimited. This wonder needs to be looked at again I think as it's a bit cheesey at present. I'm never sure whether to build it or not now.... on the one hand it is, as said, cheesey. On the other, the AI just doesnt seem to bother with the sensor techs and it's stupid to just leave it there!

I dunno that its totally useless. By the time you get it most of the anomalies are gone, so its useless for that I grant you. But for finding useable planets quickly it still has some value if you got it early enough and didn't already flood the universe with scout ships.

I dont think anyone said it's useless. Far from it.... it is very very powerful and totally cuts out the need to maintain a sensor network. If it were relatively less bonus range or ships had a higher potential maximum sensor range than the bonus it gives, then I think it would be a powerful, useful wonder. At present it's just too much and too cheesey!

They capped the Eyes of the Universe wonder for a reason. There were severe performance hits if you saw most of the screen including lots of fleet / ship movements.
Imho they should scale the effect of this wonder depending on the map size -
On the larger maps it's ok to have a higher limit, but on a tiny / medium map it's just ridiculous to have a sensor range of e.g. 30 parsecs. Also if this wonder becomes more powerful, the build time / price should definetely be raised. Right now I just buy it if it's available.

just my 0.02 €

So that's why my performance craps out in the second half of the game. When winning, I have lots of bases and lots of ships out so I can see what the enemy is up to. About the same time I do the big reveal on the verse, my performance goes away and never returns. And yes, I have Eyes (and fully upgrades sensors on my bases, d'oh!).

IMO, the real fix is performance related, and will probably take some time. Restricting sensors to improve performance is not a gameplay fix, it is just a work around until the bug is fixed.

Well..... that explains a few things

I don't have "Eyes of the universe" - the Iconians have that. I do have sensors MK IV and I could have sworn I got something that said it improved my sensor range. That's when my ships started having 15ps sensor range.

Anyway, I wish that range cap wasn't there. I'm keeping an eye on the Drengin as they conquer just about every damn body else and it's taking a huge number of spy ships to do it. Plus there's a fleet of pirates I'm looking for. Mofos ambushed one of my fleets and tore it to shreds.
