unlocking ship design in the tech tree

how does one know what tech to reaserch?

When i first down loaded this game the tech tree would say what other techs you need to make a cirtian kind of ship. Now it wont show at all and i am utterly lost as to what to reaserch to unlock ships other than the stupid defender pile of junk. It would be nice if there was a list of the ships and what techs it takes to unlock them to be able to build them. I tried to E mail stardock, but they have yet to reply to my simple question of how do i see what techs are needed to build my ships. any input would rock, especially if some one can direct me to a list that i can print/copy!!

You are playing with the latest version I'm assuming. Keep in mind that there are actually 3 different game modes: Sandbox, Metaverse, and Campaign. I don't think ship designs transfer between those three. If you click on a tech even if you can't research it yet you can see what it will unlock for you.

i think he might mean when it says e.g.:

Ranger [3 other techs needed: blah blah]

Bear in mind that you can make your own ship with whatever things you have researched, just stick them on, you don't need to research the specific combinations to get the already made ones.

It's a bug that happen sometime for some reasons the text in the xml file erase or an error so the text is not displayed.

I'm hoping that Stardock sees all of the threads dealing with core ship designs not showing up and various associated problems and is able to figure out what is going on.

hey thanks a bunch zappaphreak, ya the tree isnt showing ranger [3 other techs] after playing a few different games. It did before. Im sure stardock will see our posts and hopefully fix little things like this.
But it would be nice if stardock put up a list on main site for all the folks that are digitally downloading these days.
