It is normally built by the AI before I get the tech. It's just not something I focus on.... and by the time its available, I find its bonus fairly useless. I guess pushing for it early on could prove useful in helping your economy to get on its feet, I might give it a try sometime. But for now, no.... its probably the one I value least.

i never build it, who needs people creating even more babies per week!

Definately never build it. My planets are topped out in population as it is, so it's a useless wonder in my eyes. Even if I build a transport with 4 bil troops the population has almost grown by that much by the time the next transport is ready. Besides, in my games the AI usually builds it long before I even get the tech that unlocks it.

Actually it can be usefull

1- You invaded several planets and you want them to rapidly have more population than .05b so they can defend themselves against invasion
2- You're taxing your people rotten so you may need it to balance the population growth penality
3- As for every trade good, you sell it around for money, and you tighten your relations cause the AI may not want to lose that trade good (as it surely does if it goes to war with you)

I'm not sure of the last, but I have seen races go from friendly to close after I sold them a couple trade goods (but it could be luck and it doesn't prove it's cause-related. But it would make sense)

The civs you gave your trade good to never lose the advantage of it. Even if they are at war with you.

I never build it. Sure it's nice to get the taxes up quicker but the investments required for the project are better spend elsewhere in that critical state of the game. I do enjoy conquering... ehh liberating planets with wonders though.

Are you really sure about it?How did you notice it?

Yeah this is a real shame and something to bring up for later patches I fee... I mean, I can see why it is this way - so you dont exploit them by selling all your trade goods for tech to the AI then immediately declaring war on them!.

Instead, you should be able to sell them a trade good for a limited period only, say yearly or whatever.

I dislike the idea of selling any of my permanent bonus trade goods to an AI that can turn round and stab me in the back later. With a time limit, you could at least refuse to trade it the next time if the AI has been warring with you.

Perhaps when you sell a trade good to the AI they could accumulate a stockpile of the good, which allows them to keep using it for a certain number of turns (say 20 for the sake of argument) after they lose access to it. That way, if you trade it to them and declare war they still get to use it for a while because they have stockpiles, but eventually that will run out and they won't have access any more.

I second your idea. After all It is called 'trade' good... all trade connections between 2 nations at war are broken, so the trade good advantage should also be stopped.
To avoid the abuse you describe, one could simply implement that in the given case the relations to all civs drop considerably / wont be improvable, because noone can trust you anymore. (like the "We know what you're doing" tag you get on the Relations tab in some games on intelligent+)

With the system as it is, you're forced to think carefully about who you give your TG to.
I'm only giving away a trade good to 1. support a civ I'm allied with. 2. a weaker civ I don't like to see go down very quickly vs a stronger opponent. 3. get the $$$s / a certain tech if I need it badly

Buy a trade good from another civ - look at the abilities tab for the improvement (e.g. micro repair bots -> 20% repair ability). Declare war on that civ and watch the improvement stay the same.

I have never built Aphrodisiac. For that matter, I have never even research Habitat. I research Ethics and choose Neutral.

It functions as you said.Well if it's not a bug this thing needs really to be changed or "fixed".

In connection to that I noticed another thing. If YOU sell a trade good to another civ, the raw numbers in the abilities tab of the particular race stay the same. I guess the actual effect of the trade good is applied - have yet to test it tho.
