You need to take a *single* constructor to an *empty* square and then select the construct option. It's a little button to the left of the details of the constructor. Like where guard and sentry commands are.

Although I must warn you, Influence starbases will not change how other races feel about you, they effect your borders and influence flipping enemy planets. Putting an Influence starbase next to another races planets may actually cause them to not like you and even declare war.

It wasn't until the end of my second game that I noticed that stupid button! Arrrgh!!

This does bring up a question though...

Economic starbases can give you bonuses to your trade routes. I've read in these forums that it is a stackable bonus. It might not be. I went crazy with the things, but never actually checked the numbers (I like being able to micromanage when needed, but otherwise prefer to leave things alone once set up). Then I needed to build some influence bases asap, but was at my logistic limit and low on cash, so I chose to deactivate a couple economic bases (you get back virtually no cash!) to make room. I did check the numbers afterwards... my trade increased...after destroying a couple "stacked" economic bases . Granted, the increase wasn't much, probably due to normal trading, but it didn't go down. Still, after reading that the bonus was stackable I'll admit I'm iffy about tearing down the other extras.

What have other observations been? Do you see an increase in revenue from multiple economic starbases on the same trade routes?

Are you sure the mini-freighter was in the area where the two starbase effects overlapped?

You can also press the B button on your keyboard to [b]uild a starbase.

On small maps you can set up all your routes with one preferred neighbour and totally swamp the entire trade route with maxed out econ starbases start to finish. Doing that I easily quadrupled my weekly income at least. You get a pretty loyal and rich partner, too.
