What determines what custom ships are available?

Simple question really: I build a custom ship in Game A, played last week. I save both an equipped version with various techs and a plain hull version with nothing but extras on it. The appearance of these custom ships in Game B, a week after I designed them, seems totally unpredictable to me. I have noticed occasions where looking at specific techs in research would indicate that a previously-built custom ship will become available, so I carefully research all the techs listed, but no dice. Any idea what's going on?

I'd really like to see the shipyard brought outside the game, as it were, and put on the main menu. The restriction on editing/deleting core designs should be removed; you should be able to save custom designs as core ships; and a 'reset' button should be included that restores all deleted/modified core designs to default. This is what I'd like, assuming it wouldn't require too much work by the devs =^)

I do agree that more interaction with the filing system needs to be implemented into the builder. I also have an unexplainable occurence with a Terran constructor that doesn't appear until certain techs are researched.... even though it is a barebones cargo hull creatable from the first turn.

Same here. Made a shipclass in 'game A' last night. This morning in 'game B' the design doesn't show up in the list although all tech requirements are met.
(Same version of the game of course)

This particular shipdesign took me a considerable amount of time so I would very much like to know how to recover it!
Help please?

You also need to make sure you research up to the level of miniaturization you did in the first game. If not then the ship build you have may not be possible to make until you get to that level again.

And also any plaetary improvements that affect what you can build, eg the hypersion shrinker.

Miniaturization and Shrinker, etc. are good thoughts... I thought of them after I posted last night. The only techs I've yet to research at this point are a few in the 6 weapon/defense lines and the tech victory line. Granted some of the ships I was expecting to see have Doom Rays, etc. and so shouldn't be available yet, but I'd say there are 4-7 classes of ship that SHOULD be in the current "Game B" a week after I created them based on techs I have researched, that are NOT. Very strange.

I should add, 1.0x.1 is my version. That might be the wrong number; I can't check since I'm at work but I know it's the latest version courtesy of SD Central.

I also agree it seems that a couple ships I designed in my first game before I was very tech advanced at all are not showing up in later games where I am much more advanced.

As another post mentioned, minaturization is a factor. Also, you need to be playing the same ship type (Human vs Yor vs Torian) and you need to be in the same type of game (Metaverse vs Single Player.)

If worse comes to worse, you can open up the XML files for that ship and see what else might be required. I often forget that I need to upgrade engines or life support personally

The only problem is that none of these explain the missing constructor which is a barebones hull totally available to build from the start of the game yet has somehow become inextricably linked to Ion drive. That just doesn't make sense! I am guessing it must have come from a save from a previous patch (just cant remember!)..... anyone know if you can actually edit this kind of stuff in the XML? I hate having to wait before I can build my classy Terran constructor!!
