Saving game crash

It seems that time from time when I do a quicksave, the game crashes to the desktop and then the quicksave for that game is erased. The bug seems to be very random, happened to me about 3 times now, the last crash was especially hurtfull since my last save for that game was an hour earlier, a hour of painstaking 2 front war which I won was gone. Anyhow I am running AMD 3200+ 64, Asus K8V X mobo, 1.5 gigs of ram with a BFG 6600GT video card, Windows XP Pro SP2. THe only thing I have running in the background is Norton Antivirus in a passive mode, and Zone Alarm firewall, neither of which should do anything extreme like causing softwares to crash.

What I've found to eliminate about 95% of my save/load crash/corruption problems is to always manually save under a new name. This builds up save games quick, but you can easily delete them. I typically save them numerically so as to keep better track (1, 2, 3, etc). I've only had one or two problems since I started three weeks ago.

Turn off all antivirus programs if not on the internet (EXSPECIALY NORTON) norton causes more problems than soft mick.

Also recommend turning off the auto virus system scan cos if you dont I gaurante more crashes + more lost game play.

This happend to me several times until I read in one of the bug threads that using spaces in ship names can cause this. I redesigned my ships without using spaces (the _ and - characters are fine) and it stopped crashing. Luckily I set the autosave option to save every 3 turns so I didn't lose anything.
