Population

Just wondering what the benefits of having a large population on my planets is?

Also, I have taken enemy planes with 10+ billion people on them, and even using convnetional warfare I still end up with a planet that has less than a billion people on them. Is there any way to prevent such huge losses?

The more people you have on a planet, the more effort it will take to conquer it. Also, you'll get more tax revenue. A huge population on a planet with an Economic Capital is very nice indeed. . .
