This is rediculous II

Galactic Civ I was one of the best games I had ever played. I purchased GC II online betting that the quality would repeat. 2 patches later... and still I cannot finish a game without crashes or sloppy bugs. When I do finally get through a game, it only lets me post the results to the metaverse 50% of the time. There are 23 screens of bugs. There are posts within these pages containing dozens of 'glitches'. The Patches are called 'D' and 'X', not .02 and .03. This is epidemic. I am certainly not calling for anything other than Star Dock to fix it. But feel free to add your 'same here' should you be as frustrated as I am.

You just gotta realise that some people have problems, others don't. Just cos you have problems doesn't mean it's automatically the develops fault.

I havn't got anything near a super computer but the game runs great and it's only crashed once in the 2 weeks i've been playing.

Turn off SLI and use only one card. It's been mentioned that SLI often does not work unless NVidia configures a profile for it to work with a specific game. Turn it off and try again.

That is quite the abuse Hayly... 2 days ago I updated all my display drivers... I have gone back and tried to find how the system after using Driver Cleaner Pro would still be able to roll back the drivers to the factory drivers. Responce #20 was helpfull in pointing out that the reinstall was faulted, and I have corrected it. That said, the driver update form the Nvidia 81.98 drivers I was using 2 days ago would not have given me problems logging on to the metaverse. It has happened now with 3 different video driver sets. Thanx to reply #23 who knows somthing about SLI and that they are very, very picky in how they opperate. The Nvidia 81.98 drivers have been on the system up to 2 days ago and I still had the metaverse problem... As for coment #24, I don't knock Star Docks attempt at fixing it. I certainly agree they are working at the issues... but I believe there are many, and beta testing should have caught handfuls.

reply to # 27,
I have it defaulted to run on the primary card should there not be a profile in my list... but thanx

New drivers arent the answer to all the worlds problems

No, but if you've got an unexplained problem and an old driver... it's probably best to look into updating that before making accusations about the quality of software you are running on your unupdated machine.

Simple truth.

Im still going to bet his game crashes on GC2 because hes playing with the same PC he played GC1 with

All jokes aside, I hope your problems are fixed, but I dont think a patch will be what does it for you.

98% of the people who play this game play it crash free, including myself. We dont need a patch, we need to figure out why your computer is barfing when it sees GC2.

Okay then.... I always like the sweeping statements and the diatribes against Stardock and then seeing these...

There is nothing wrong with the computer, drivers or software.

Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7777
Driver Date: 7/20/2005 21:07:00

Sure, there may be issues but as they have proven before Stardock will fix them. I have not crashed once. As for failure to post to the metaverse that could be many issues from a cheat code being used or some other stat being out of line from what is expected. Stardock is also working on those too...

SLI is buggy my friend, try not OCing, then try driver update "witch is prob it esp with SLI". then format. Then blame the game.

seriously not a flame, with that kind of rig you need a 2nd hd to test things. or get part magic & split one drive. You will find 90% of the time its a user config problem with a service or piece of software.

Not to say there are not bugs, but i have left for the weeknd & gal civ still be running when i get home. The game is worth the effort & you comp always needs a clean test drive IMO if your a hard core gamer.

reply 25, thank you as well. I have, as indicated many sets of drivers. When I use the factory provided disk, 3Dmark05 gives much better results than the new NVidia drivers.

#33, understood, but I have an old 200GB ide with the game partitioned 3 ways and an 80GB SATA drive with the OS so that I can keep everything clean and clear.

true newest drivers are always better, but SLI has had enough bugs newest drivers will PROB be better, but its trial & error obviously

continued to #33... formating the system is not something I am prepared to do, nor is it something that I should have to. I defrag before and after installing to ensure it is about as issue free as possible.

Debug Message: Error flipping back buffer to primary buffer.
Debug Message: Device lost
I find it interesting that noone has mentioned this yet..  These 2 lines in your debug file seem to point out what may be the problem..  The game crashed due to a display problem.  You mentioned you OC your system.  Have you bothered trying to disable OC?

Clearly not in this case!

If you are now going to insist that your system is fine when you are using older drivers and willfully blame the software... even though there were literally COUNTLESS reminders from Stardock that you really really really had to update your drivers..... then you've lost all sympathy from me.

You've been given some help, basic as it may be. Try installing new drivers and running the game. If there are still problems then - report again. If the problem is fixed... report again.

Otherwise, don't expect much further help from people here when we are just trying to help you and you are ignoring advice in favour of what "you know" is right... even when it's you with the crashing problems and not us.

Grapefruits, please stop f'ing with benchmarks, update your video drivers, and play the game!

Don't ruin your gameplay experience over less than 1% difference in a synthetic (BS) benchmark!

Enjoy.

You're complaining about their versioning?

Sheesh.

spearthrower, please refer to my post #28. There were updated drivers until 2 days ago when an obvious error occured when I tried a new install of non Nvidia drivers to try sort out soe SLI issues. This problem has been there since the day one, when using new drivers too.
XenoPhage is right... the last two lines do baffle me a bit too. If information needed to conect to the metaverse is in that buffer, then obviously it is an issue... Although I *highly* doubt that the OC is an issue since it is curently only at 5% OC, I will revert to normal and try. But first I think I will search the forum for similar buffer issues.

lol, thanx for the advice Zeta... but try telling a race car driver not to supe his engine or only use stock tires. I enjoy my gaming experiences more when my computer is performing better.
There is no similar buffer issue found through a forum search... if anyone else has seen this, please post.

Grapefruits --- Nvidia just released the forceware 80 series driver yesterday it specifically addresses undocumented errors that occur with SLI it might be worth giving them a try to help your problem.

A race car driver's livelihood depends on getting every bit of power out of his vehicle. Higher framerates are nothing but ego boosters. Update the drivers. You probably won't even notice the loss of one or two fps.

The Patches are called 'D' and 'X', not .02 and .03.

And this is why you are having problems?

Patch 3 is out at the end of the month - that alone speaks volumes.

That's the featherbrained kind of comment Frogboy anticipated.

I would not bother to help someone who starts a flame like this.

But luckily there are many helpfull people here who are much more tolerant than I'm

Finally I hope that you can fix your problem to enjoy the game.

Did the new driver help?
