Bug Making Fog of War obsolete.

i just started my second game of galciv2. when i click on the ownership button for the minimap i can see the influence sphere of all civilizations, even so i have not discovered a new sun/planet or civilization.

is this intended?

I dont know if it is intended ... but I think it counts as an exploit ... especially at the beginning you know where you should send your colony ships

And dont tell me not to use the button ... its only one ... little ... click .... argh I can not resist

it is definately intended, and also wildly voted as a Bad Idea... But of course it is all objective so their is no such thing

It was inteded, since GalCiv2 takes place after GalCiv1, The idea was that you already know vagely what is out there. However do to populer demand, we will be makeing it optional in the 1.1 update.

Yeah it's intended, and I always use it.

It doesn't help any though in the Dread Lords on Parade scenario since they don't produce "influence" in that sense.

If it takes place after Gal Civ 1 then why do we only have one planet and are back to square one on starting techs? I WANT MY RANGERS AT THE START!

Teasing of course!

It only bothers me a little, because I only end up cursing myself instead of the program. I do see it as cheating, yet I can't stop myself - lol. I'm glad we have the option to disable this in the next patch. That's my second reason to get it (the first being random opponents).

If it is intended, then why don't the influence spheres show up on the main map until I uncover the fog?
The main map and the mini map should show the same thing.

I do find it kinda nice sometimes, I know where not to send colony ships.
My vote though is for the minimap to act like the main map, only show the areas I have uncovered. Or at least only show the civ's I have contacted.

One other thing I noticed, and haven't seen a mentioned.
If a ship is destroyed, the fog of war never returns to that location.

It's kinda fun sending out cheap 15pc sensor ships and have them shot down, and eventually get the whole map forever uncovered.
