Building your homeworld/colony-help please?

Hello all!

I would appreciate any strategic advice regarding the building up of your homeworld/colonies...just seems I've seen a LOT of partial references (build 1 factory, no build 2, build a farm, no, don't build a farm, choose a "planetwide focus" and build as many labs/ factories/trade centers as possible, no, don't go overboard on one focus but instead build several different things, etc) towards this but I'm looking for a more detailed answer as I'd actually like to not get my ass kicked by the AI!!!

So if you have a typical (PQ 10-12) planet that's completely boring and has zero bonus tiles, you'd build...

I don't know if there's really a #1 best way of doing things. I build three factories, then a farm and an entertainment complex. The rest depends on what bonus tiles there are. If there are none, then I fill the rest with factories, quickly giving me a good manufacturing world, which is handy especially early in the game.

When it's not a homeworld and just a colony, I follow the same pattern for the first five buildings, then fill the rest with whatever I happen to need at the moment: either economy or research. Once again, if there's some bonus tiles, I'll specialise the world based on them. For economy I prefer high PQ planets, allowing me to really pump up the population. Most of my research centres are actually on small worlds, where I build only a couple factories at most.
