other BUGS for 1.11.078

Hi guys!
I've noticed some bugs:

- the "near omnipotence" technology doesn't offer me the choice to study "excalibur technology", as reported in the tech tree;

- if I change government, the economic bonus remains +20, instead of going to +40 and +60

- if I change social/industrial/research rates, and then I move on the research panel, it doesn't update the month remaining;
if I go back to the economic panel, then back again to research panel, it shows the correct one.

also, a suggestion: it could be better to show, on the technology sheet, also the cost of that technology, so everybody can precisely evaluate how much it will take to study it.

The economic bonus isn't supposed to go up to 40 and 60, at least thats what I've heard.

This should also be put in the stickied 1.11.078 bugs thread.

Hi!
The manual says that:
republic +20
democracy +40
federation +60

Also, a lot of other things are not correct in the manual... it's a pity that you have to remember the differences between the manual and the game...

BTW, for the excalibur technology: I noticed that in some places you have to be 30 alignment to build it, in other places there are no limits... wow, what a big confusion!!

I don't like it... the game is great, but the documentation sucks.

When tech screen is open or researching of a new tech is finished, at the same time something is built, If you don't press next and just push Turn, you won't be able to properly close the tech display until the same thing happens again.

About the manual, are we complaining about the PDF version not being updated? If so, I could offer to help update it with the correct values...

Which is why what I change the sliders, I click on the planet button (no screen change) then the tech tab, so it updates without bouncing back and forth.

Hi!
Dancer: it was not that case... it was during normal movement.

Dracil: how can you update the pdf version with correct values?? There are a lot of differences!! Are you sure you can do that? well, in that case... great!
And... yes, I refer to the pdf manual

Couslee: but you need to go back and forth, because you have to adjust the research value... oh, why not a simple indicator on the economic panel, that says immediately how many months are remaining for that tech at that rate? It would semplify so much (see civ3)...

I must say that for the interface, Civilization rulez... maybe the developers must give a look at it...

Anyway, thanks a lot guys.... please give me other suggestions, if any! And let me know if the pdf manual is updated!!

Well, I'm assuming all I gotta do is compare the values with what it says in the game then edit the pdf so it says the correct stuff. Hope it works. :p

Hi!
Good Dracil, I don't have a pdf editor, so I'd really appreciate that! But in the game you are not able to see how much you have to research for that particular technology... in fact, I'm arguing why there are tech trees with tech costs... maybe the developer gave the values to the public.
Thanks a lot!!

Well, technically Java Scout's Site http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/ has the information up-to-date to 1.10A.

Oh yes, I visited it, but in some things it differs from the real rules: for example, the excalibur ship in the tech tree requires an alignment of 30 (or less, I suppose), while in Javascout's site it is not mentioned.

You know, the problem is that there is no perfectly updated rule source: the pdf manual, javascout's, or tech trees, all have some imperfections... I consider this a lack of developers, because documentation is a key in this kind of games.

For example, I was searching technologies that could lead me to excalibur, and didn't know that my alignment was not ok for it... I wasted about 9 turns to do it, instead of preparing overlord warships... and at the end I won culturally, instead of militarly, getting half the score!! And this was caused by the lack of precise documentation... It sucks, the game loses playability!

Thanks Dracil... any update will be appreciated!!

Well, I poked through the files and built some Excaliburs. don't see any alignment requirements if anything. Heck, I was even Pure Good (so I am most certainly not within that <30 requirement). More likely it was a bug or the bonus-pack got messed up (could you build anti-matter missiles?)

Excalibur tech doesn't require 30 aligment. Javascour's site is built from the game fiels so it is always perfectly accurate, unless htere is a bug where the code doesn't take a value specified in one of the text files into account.

Hi all!
It is strange that I was able to build anti-m missiles, but not excalibur... the problem is that I was not even able to research that tech... I've updated the game 4 days ago... 1.11.078 ... so strange!

Thanks LDiCesare... I'll consider attendable JS's site from now on!

Do you think that developers read this forum searching for bugs and other issues??

They do read bug reports, but you should put htm in the stickied threads. CariElf often answers there too.

Hi!
I don't understand, LDiCesare... what does it mean "htm" ? what is a "stickied thread" ??
Sorry, english is not my mother tongue!

S1mone,

I'm going to guess that LDiCesare meant to say "you should put them in the stickied threads."

If you look on the main page, there's a set of message threads at the top of the list. Those are the "sticky threads", they are always stuck at the top of the list regardless of how old they get. Below the last sticky thread (which is probably something like 30 days old) is the first "regular thread" which is probably 5 to 20 minutes old. You just want to open a thread in that top, "sticky" section that has to do with bug reporting and mention your problem in there.

Yes, htm is a typo, I ment "them". Sorry, I tend to type too fast and not read back (that and switching from one type of keyboard to another one every five minutes mqkes it very eqwy to misspell).

Thank you guys! I'm sorry, it was easy understandable, but I didn't noticed it!!

I've posted the bug on the sticky... hope it will work!

Bye

So is there still actually any interest in an updated manual? Or is JavaScout's good enough?

I agree that would be nice, but that is not the bug you mentioned in the first post. I told you of a work-around for the problem of the tech screen not updating when you did the (pita) back and forth checking. :)

- if I change social/industrial/research rates, and then I move on the research panel, it doesn't update the month remaining; if I go back to the economic panel, then back again to research panel, it shows the correct one.
