Is there any way to get the game to run faster?

Seriously on large maps, when I hit next turn it takes ages for my turn to finish.

I don't have this problem with any other game. I guess it takes a lotta cpu power to compute all the moves. Is there anything I can do to speed things up short of buying a new computer?

Play smaller maps

try zooming right the way in onto empty space, it can speed it up considerably as you aint having to "watch" every ship move

You could also try playing from the tactical view... you know, zooming out until everything changes into symbols.

Cheers.

I'd say buy some more ram, I don't know how much you have, but ram can play a big part. So rather then you computer getting game info off the hard drive it'll get it from the ram which is faster. It doesn't sound to me like you'd have to do anything with your vid card, but if it's real old then i'd consider that too. I have a gig of ram and it runs fine on all map sizes, so i'd try that first.

upgrade your computer? or defrag your harddisk(s)?

or increase your pagefile if you run low on ram windows trys and increases it but any application running at the time can lag look on internet to do it and only set it too about double your computers ram if its already higher than that now you might as well put it to the max

set tactical zoom down so that ur not viewing lots of graphics at once, on big maps i usually play most of the time with just the icons and i zoom in when i need to take a closer look at the action.

Give us your computer specs - most likely you need an upgrade somewhere - dont just "upgrade your memory" until we know what your running

Are you running any other applications in the background, if so turn them off for the game time. Another thing increasing your pagefile is good, but make it static ie: say 768mb would be nice, so it would be minimum size = 768 and max size = 768, this will keep the swapfile from constantly resizing all the time.
