Things that Pi$$ me off...and can you help?

Ok I have played like a dozen games and I have noticed a few things that really make me mad and i was woundering if there was anything that can be done to make the game play more fun.

First: Unused ship option. If i have Fleet A, B and C. I tell the computer to move Fleet A and C across the map, then the computer will take me to Fleet B assuming i want to move it. Yeah I know its not a big deal but its a pain in the @$$ when you have basic Logisitics and you have 15 ships, can't fleet them up and you want to move ships and after you tell each ship to move the computer takes you to the other side of the map asking you if you want to move a scout. Or you look at a planet to see if you can further its production and then you want to check the sister planet but you are taken to the other side of the map again.

Second: Do your ships upgrade? I usually pump out some stock Defender class ships so the computer doesn't gang up on me and turn me into the galactic...anyways. I have about 5 stock Defenders chilling...I research 5 more weapon techs/sheld techs. I go to build more defenders with the new weapons...and they all have the outdated P.O.S. that they had at the begining. If i want to utilize the newly found techs do i have to manually build a new ship each time? Is there something im missing? Thanks guys for the help.

1) Yeah, I would personally like it if the computer didn't automatically jump to the next idle ship/fleet. At the very least, I'd like it to be an option that I can turn off.

2) You have to go into the Shipyard screen and create your own upgraded ships.

defenders are just one of the stock ships. make any other ship with a 'small' type hull with your new weapons, then click your old defenders in the game, and click 'upgrade' down on the interface. then you can upgrade them to anything with the same hull size.

Ok so you have to make a new design in the shipyard and then click the "Upgrade" button on all of your defenders or just one? and do your defenders have to be on a planet or starbase or anywere?

You can "guard" or "sentry" your ships if you don't want them to be jumped to at all. Might not be exactly what you're looking for but...

It seems to cost ALOT to upgrade a simple laser to a laser II. It would be cheaper to buy a new ship!

Am I missing something? I only had *one* ship of a class (10 hitpoints 50% ability trait). I wanted just a basic small upgrade but it would cost me 500 BC. I am playing on easy 'fool' AI to learn the game mechanics.

You must individually upgrade each Defender. Also as stated earlier to upgrade a ship it must be the same hull type. I.E. You can't upgrade a Tiny Scout to a Small Defender, but you could upgrade a Small Defender to a Small Fighter.

EDIT: Normally I find it easier to just start building the new ship and not worry about upgrading, unless of course you are in a tight bind.

Yea i feel these same, the upgreads cost a lot u could think but if u dont upgrad does you will end up with a loot of ship and half will be uot of date but still costing maint and the new ones too, so or make new or sell the old for as much as like 21bc i gues

Remember when you are upgrading the farther away you are the longer it takes and your hull goes down to 1 hit point.

If you upgrade one of your designs you can upgrade all ships of the old design in one shot but it is VERY EXPENSIVE! I don't bother upgrading ships because the cost is excessive and instead build new ones. You could decommission old ships or sell them to a friendly race.

I've upgraded all of my ships at once several times, I've never had to go to each one and do it separately. There's a little check box up at the top of the upgrade screen that asks you if you want to upgrade all of the ships, just click it.
