AI Bug. Colony ship spam.

I was playing the Yor on a 9 player huge map on "Intelligent" AI settings for all of the AIs.
After the main initial colony rush, I noticed the Torians had no defensive ships at their planets, so
I bee-lined for Planetary Invasion (maxed the research spender) and took a Torian world with a transport.
My next transports were stopped by a massive influx of colony ships that the Torians suddenly decided to
build like crazy. But what they built was ... odd.

One of their planet's stardocks was filled with 0 attack/0 defense colony ships. The rest all had one or two
colony ships in orbit.

Is this what an AI does that doesn't have weapon tech? Crank out useless ships? I would suspect that they actually DID have weapon tech at that point... everyone else did.

Does having a colony ship in orbit actually stop you from being able to just land a troop transport?

I think it does, having any sort of ships in orbit stops planetary invasion

Whats worse, is minor race influence base spam.

Yes, but of course having any ship with any kind of weapon can clear them out quickly. It might be interesting if you loaded a saved game of that match to determine if indeed they had any weapons techs.

Ha, I had the Akilians or whatever do that to me. It was annoying as hell, and they had the nerve to send me spam about the ONE influence base I built near them to extend my scouting range.

I was playing a Yor vs Iconian Refuge game, and noticed the same thing.

However, the Iconians were actually using colony ships for planet scouts. It meant they had excess colony ships after they snapped up as many planets as they could. I don't know why they didn't decommission them, but it seemed to be a somewhat clever tactic, as you could explore and colonize at the same time.

Since colony ships eventually have no maint, I use mine for scouts as well. But, I start out with the ion drive tech so they are pretty nice for colonizing until all the colonies are taken. Speed of 5pc/wk easily beats the other AI's to most of the good planets 9+

If it was just a case of planets running out and they had remaining colony ships, that'd be one thing. But a single planet had a full starbase (what's that ... 8 ships?) in orbit. And every other planet had a colony ship in orbit. They had more colony ships than there were habitable planets anywhere near them.

And yes, I know about the minor race influence base spam. That was my last post...
