A few things I'd like to see

I just bought the game the other day, and I had a few thoughts on things I'd like to see implemented in the game. First, on the ship designer screen, could you guys put a slider under the ship components? It's a pain in the neck to have to click a bunch of times to find different parts of my ship. A nice smooth sliding thing would be nice. Second, I'd like to be able to start a new game with an arbitrary planet. When I started a new game the other day, I played as humans. I'm able to rename my home planet, but it's still just Earth with a different name. Is it possible to set your home world to something other than the race default? Or even randomize it? I know it's not a major issue or anything, just something that would make me happy :) A final thing that would be nice would be the ability to select something on the tech tree that isn't currently available, and it would add all techs leading up to it in a queue.

I think it'd be nice to be able to click on a technology that isn't currently available, and all techs leading up to it would be queued. Or the ability to enqueue a bunch of techs so that I don't have to change it every time I finish one.

Planet tiles: Area effects for placement of structures on planets. Right now, the only strategy involved with the placement of structures on planets are the bonus tiles. It might be cool to get bonuses say, for example, if you have research centers placed to one another. I'm sure this has already been thought of though!

There really is't any need for the research change. They've simplified the research tree to be linear, it's not like you have to research A,M, and O to get to B. (like GC1 or CIV4)

It picks the next one automaticatically as well. (i geuss your change would clean up when it branches)

Great idea on the planet tiles, DG.
Right now the planets look cool, but mean zip, really.
I would love to see some slight twist to strategy on the planet tiles, should be easy to code, like a 10% bonus if a tile next to yours is the same type, so clumping up your factories gives you a bonus. Would make a whole new dimension to planet building for about 20 minutes of code time.

I agree that the appearance of a planet is basically meaningless. But I want my home planet to look like I want it to, and not always be Earth with a possibly different name.

Thanks EF! i've no idea about the coding time but this would also swing the other way for invasions. Say the planet just happens to have five factories, one in the center tile and one on each side of it. If that center tile/factory just happens to be destroyed during an invasion, the extra kick the planet had (besides losing the factory itself) is also lost.
I was thinking a smaller bonus than 10%, like perhaps 2.5% which would lead to an overall pontential of 10%.
