Naming the Ships

Individual ship names?

Is there any way to change the name of a ship after it has been made ? Like assign unique names to ships of the same class? I guess I can just update the ship in the shipyard everytime i make a new one but that seems kind of tedious. Is there a easier way to rename a ship?

When you select a ship there will be a bar with a name (i.e. fighter 352). Just click on the name of the ship and it will let you rename it.

Unfortunatly it will quickly become a pain in the hindquarters to name every single individual ship.

Save the names for the mission-critical ships, Such as the invasion ship trying to win back your homeworld, Or your first Huge hulled ship mounted with Doom Rays..

Could you make a text file that has all possible shipnames? There is a similar file for stars names (STARS.txt) where the game randomly picks names from. Is that possbile for ship names?

Yes, that would be an useful feature ... I stopped naming ships after like 20 of them had been produced, it was amusing at first but I have better things to do than this

LoL, I tend to name planets, starbases, and big freaking ships. My fighters are just that, fighters; who cares what their pilots call them?

LoL. I did name a tiny hulled fighter that got a crapload of exp and bonus HP, though; little bastard could smoke a pair of frigates all by himself. Cool to see.

Does anyone know why the number sequence that comes after any given ship is so random??? I would think that the first of any given class produced would be number 1, the second number 2 and so on. But, it seems to me that the frist "Defender" will by 27, and the second 134, and so forth randomly. Is there is a reason for this??? Is there a way to change this so it accuratly reflects that number you have produced? Thanks

My guess was that it's from the total of all ships produced by all empires; that they generate some serial number for every ship/station/fleet created anywhere, and insert that into the name to guarentee uniqueness.

I name My Ship if their Exp. (Hit points) justifies upgrading 'em.
