Minor Civs espionage

I don't see an option for increasing spending on espionage on minor races, yet the description states I need to up my spending in order to see their planets ships and starbases. Without this information I can't buy starbases from them because they don't show up.

Am I missing something or do I just need to take the starbases by force?

Taske them by force. You can not spy on Minors or trade for there ships or SB.

As far as I know you can't have any kind of espionage agaisnt minor races. I've also had a weird problem where they build starbases, but for all purposes the game treats them as if the starbases are not really there. I built several starbases one sector away (should be min of 3) without any problem.

Its my theory that the game doesn't know what to do with minor race starbases all the time, which might explain why you can't buy them (I assume you mean trade) because the game doesn't realize that those starbases are really there.

Perhaps a solution would be to not allow them to build starbases, as the seem to not be allowed to build colonies.

you also cannot break alliances with Minors (but, you can form alliances with them)

I learned the hard way with that...AFTER I formed an alliance, and then wanted to break it (with a Minor). I was told I would need to break the alliance first, but I could not break it. Finally, they were over-run by the Drengin, and they surrendered their planet(s) to another race....a race NOT allied with them.

So, I learned not to form alliances with Minors. But I also noticed that I could not spy on them either during the same game.

I dont know why they even put in the minor races. They are useless. I watched as one of the minor races was getting there butt kicked , so I gave them ships to protect themselves. The ships turned the colors for that civ, but I watched still as the other civ kicked them into the ground and still not one of the ships that I gave them did anything. you cant do espionage and they are push overs when trading. Why didnt they just make them regular races, so that the game would have a little more logic. I see soo many issues with this game, that its hard to play it. I have started a custom race to find out that the way my race works is diferent every time I save and reload. I want this game to be a lot less buggy. PLEASE I spent all the money that I had for a pc game, and I am feeling let down. I owned the first gal civ and it was great. I hope that this one gets patched into a usable game. I will say though that this company is great with the way they handle anti piracy and I want to keep giving money to keep them afloat. I can only do that if the game works good though.

The custom race thing is a known bug. It's easy to get around though. You need to know exactly what bonuses you gave your Custom race, and make sure they are the only ones on screen when you load the race up. The game will try to give you extra "free abilities" based on the techs you start with. Not a big deal.
