You mean like trading your technologies to another civ? You gotta use the diplomacy screen for that, bro. And you don't lose them, the other civ just gets them.

If you're talkin' about the planet improvements, like the factories n' stuff, there's no way to trade that stuff, not unless you want to trade the whole planet.

Trading the trade goods to other civilizations gives them the abilities that those trade goods give to you. You do not lose those abilities, and the AI will not be able to trade it to anyone else. (Nor would you, if you traded for a trade good.) So you don't need to worry about them trading it to one of your enemies, but I would be wary about trading goods that affect your diplomacy skills - since this would make future trades with them less profitable.

Yeah, tech trading will be optional in 1.1

I trade "trade techs" to my economic partners to increase my trade income, and I'll trade some defensive and general ship techs if I want to influence the outcome of a war. I never, ever trade weapons.

For example, in my current game the Thalans are the most powerfull civ, besides me, with the Yor pretty close. I traded medium ship building and shields to the Yor in exchange for them declaring war on the Thalans. With the shield tech and medium hulls, the Yor were able to damage the Thalans military strength signifigantly, while both civs economy suffered. The Thalans were able to turn the tide after a while, but the damage is done. My new "Mantis" Class, large hull war ships are rolling out of the starports as we speak. Bwahahahaa!

Causing wars between other civilizations is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Yes, turning off tech trading will be optional. Many people like myself will never use this option but it's there for those that complained about tech. Good option for them.
