GalCiv II: v1.1 preview

GalCiv II: v1.1 preview

Here's what's in store..

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords v1.1 is in development.  We've got a lot of new features planned.  The list below is by no means comprehensive. It's just some of the things we're focusing on:

  • The ability to set a given planet as a technology, research, ship building or balanced planet, . NOT like the overall focus. It would literally add a 9% boost to a given type (or 3%, 3%, 3%).
  • Color coded the hammers/etc. based on whether they are bonus or not. Then on mouse over, which by then should be very nice, we can display where these numbers come from.
  • On game setup, have an option to simply set up how many players you want to play against and have it randomly pick who you’re playing with.
  • On game setup, have a checkbox that says "Randomize intelligence". The result would be that the game difficulty would be used to distribute the intelligence points. Example: I could select "Tough" and then have this checkbox selected and it would look at the # of players and the total number of intelligent points it takes to have tough and then distribute it out so that some are smarter than others (up to a 30% difference between intelligences).
  • Lots of tweaks to the context window UIs which we’ll be discussing how best to do it.
  • Fleet Manager screen.
  • An option to show auto pilot ships destinations on map with a very very faint line (dotted preferably if possible) where they are going. Ala the trade routes.
  • When selecting a constructor, have a very very faint circle that shows the area of effect a starbase would have.
  • MAJORLY updated AI (not to make it tougher, to make it smarter at higher levels and dumber -- i.e. poor strategies -- at lower levels)
  • Additional ship extras for more ship options
  • Bug fixes of various kinds
  • Approval Rating > 75% gives you a 5% boost to production. Approval rating < 40% has a -5% affect on production. Players won't be charged for this bonus production.
  • Ability to rotate ship components in the Ship Designer
  • Dynamic logo components - brand your ships with your insignia
  • Enhanced context menus for managing stacked ships and fleets
  • Starbase modules pruned/tweaked
  • Unused Social Spending routed to military spending (or back to treasury if nothing is being used)
  • New ship components
  • UI for selecting MODS/Total Conversions
  • Updated Scoring System
  • No Tech Trading option
  • New maps and scenarios
  • Various tweaks to economics, costs, etc.

Update: Free-form ship component rotation and resizing after being placed added. Very cool in action!

We expect to have this out by the end of the month. It'll be free for all customers of Galactic Civilizations II -- now at a store near you.

will buy this game when you finally add a multiplayer option. and for those who don´t like multiplayer: use single player.

Why are you bothering to post this? Thier game is #1 in sales so it seems most players dont care about MP after all which is pretty much what Brad has said since the begining.

While I agree that the game would rock with MP, it seems to be doing just fine without it too so there is zero reason for them to add it in as a free upgrade.

Very nice! Waiting will be the hard part.

I would like to be able to warn off ships that come into my territory, like, "Leave my space or you risk war!" As it is, the stupid enemy ships just go wherever they want.(Yea, everyone's an enemy)

It's not territory, it is areas of influence. The game does not take into account borders in the sense you are thinking.

Would it be possible (or is it already possible and i haven't noticed it yet) to go into ship design without playing? I would like to be able to design some ships and then play and use those ships. Currently, I have to reach that point of technology where I can get a lot of the hulls, then I design ships. Just a thought, the design engine is really pretty fun.

Looks like my post got eaten...oh well...there is just one point I'd like to get across.

Unused Social Spending routed to military spending (or back to treasury if nothing is being used)

I know you'll give us details on this, but I just wanted to give my suggestions on this:

I do believe that it does add to the 'realism' of the game to have some sort of waste or corruption in the game (though, the current model is very extreme). So, this is my suggestion:

Do not have conversion of Socail Production go 'one-for-one' into Military Production or BC's, but have the 'Conversion Rate' be based upon that planets Morale.

I feel this accurately illustrates what would happen in such a Society. A very happy planet (90-100%) wouldn't have much corruption or waste while a unhappy one (40% or lower) would have a lot.

This also give the player more options than just having to fiddle around with sliding bars (if you want an efficient conversion of reasources on a planet, make them happy!).

agreed and seconded.

a feature thats easily-accessible from the main menu that allows us to just play around with ship designs and save them. It would be fantastic!

Unused Social Spending routed to military spending (or back to treasury if nothing is being used)

Thank you very, VERY much. This will drastically improve gameplay for me, primarily by reducing miromanagment of my economy to counter social spending disappearing into the nether. I really can't say enough how great this change is.

Approval Rating > 75% gives you a 5% boost to production. Approval rating < 40% has a -5% affect on production.

Nice. I'd prefer having it scale though, something like -15% production at 0% morale scaled up to +10% production at 100% morale, which makes 60% morale the mid-point (no production bonus/penalty)

Giggady Giggady!

Everyday is like Christmas with this game!

I love the randomized intelligence level. Probably won't use the randomized opponents since I like everyone on. Now if the game could select from a POOL of Stock and custom created races, THAT would be nirvana. You would have to set the AI and everything for custom non-players. Shouldn't be so horrible to implement I imagine as except for the abilities that you select for that race the AI shouldn't care what graphic you use for that race. Oh well ... what the heck do I know.

The only glitches/annoyances that I can think of are
1) Not being able to build obsolete factories on planets when you are high tech. Makes new, and older planets useless to capture
2) Ships moving when you haven't selected them. This drives me NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway ... I love you guys. Anyway that I can send you Donuts?

Dano

PS - Executive Form - You were a beta tester for MOO3? Are you still gagged by an NDA? I bet you have some JUICY stories! I LOVE to HATING those 'developers'

Just please keep no tech trading an OPTION so we can play some games with it if we want.

ood patch, but it's not yet enabled NO TECH TRADE OPTION.Please devs hear the cry of people which don't like tech whoring (we are a lot) !!!!

An off or on option is the solution, I particluarly love the tech trade.

Stardock , you are a breathe of fresh air. Thanks for caring.

Please restore option in the ship builder to not wipe out all components on upgrade.

Thanks for adding no tech trading as an option!! major asset indeed.

First time I have ever bought a game and have felt like I was part of a "team".

I still think it would be really cool to be able to customize star bases like you can ships.

This is not a problem in the game, if you play hardest levels the AI would not trade with you almost at all. So to solve your problem, just play hardest levels

What levels are you playing? With all the AI at Intellient, I've found the AI just as willing to trade as normal.

Anyway, the complaint wasn't JUST that 'Tech Whoring' was giving an unfair advantage to the player, but it was the (seemingly) illogical trading that went on behind the scenes between the individual AI.

The 'No Tech Trading' OPTION (<---notice the emphasis) will be just another way for some hardcore people to play. Who knows? Maybe the AI just won't be able to deal with researching everying on its own, and then the game will be even less fun. Hopefully, the Dev's will be able to make it work.

I re-read your comments and I agree with you an off/on option for trade tech is the solution, you could enable this option at the beginning of the game similar to cultural, alliance tech victory.

Excellent list of updates/fixes/added features!

Strange, I have seen the following, near the bottom of the list:

No Tech Trading option

"Additional ship extras for more ship options"

What do you mean by ship extras?

"Starbase modules pruned/tweaked"

Please, when upgrading starbases mining resources go +5, +7, +10, +13 ... instead of +2, +3, +5, +10 ...

"Updated Scoring System"

Would you please document how scores are calculated?

Some nice new features!

RE: No Tech Trading Option.

I'm positive when the patch list was posted, it didn't list the 'No Tech Trading Option' on it. So, when the poster above made his comment (as did I, a few posts down), we were looking at the ORIGINAL list. Right, after I posted (about #10), the list was updated and the 'Tech' option appeared.

So, please, stop pointing this out! If the board wouldn't be so random as to what posts we can edit, I'm sure that he would have changed this by now.

That's coming. Just not in 1.1.
