Core Ships not showing up

I posted yesterday that i could not get core ships to show up to build them, and i recieved a link to what components each core ship needed. I just played through a whole game and no core ship above defender showed up in my starport. Clearly something isnt right, I'm just not sure how to fix this. thanks

If you hit CTRL+Shift+R while at the gamescreen, then go to your shipyard, do a bunch of ships show up? If not, you're probably missing files.

I was kinda having this problem, but my problem was that I was playing the campaign and a lot of things were not available even though you could see them in the tech tree. Are you playing a real game or the campaign?

No, I was playing a game with all the default settings

Can you get the ships from the beam weapons line to show up? I reported this in the Glitch thread last week, because I couldn't get the mass driver or missile core ships to show up (sniper, missile boat), while the beam weapon core ships would. When I get off work tonight gonna have to check this out again, trying ctrl-shift-R as recommended. Haven't checked this in campaign, I'm just referring to sandbox games.

I have the same problem, no ships past defender show up. Colony ship, Freighter, Constructor, Transport, Scout, Fighter, Defender, thats it I tried going to the shipyard, nothing there thats any larger. The other empires didnt build any larger ships either, just fighters, heavy fighters, etc. HELP PLEASE!

I am playing the game version bought at StarDock and downloaded, CD is being shipped.

I forgot to mention, you need to be using the cheat flag for CTRL+SHIFT+R to work. It's a cheat that researches most of the tech tree.

You can enable cheats by creating a shortcut to GalCiv2.exe and use that to start the game.

1) Use Windows Explorer to find GalCiv2.exe.
2) Right click on GalCiv2.exe and choose create shortcut.
3) Right click on the shortcut and choose properties.
4) Click in the target field and hit end.  Hit Space followed by the word CHEAT.  No switches neccesary.

I had a similar issue my first game, but I think maybe I was missing something in the tech tree that was required but not obvious (I saw the site that purported to have the requirements for specific ships, but I think it's not 100% correct). In the game I am playing now I am getting all kinds of core ships showing up (but my research is much higher). Still, it's usually best to build your own!

I am having similar problems but I am wondering if I really have all of the technology I need. I know that when researching technologies, I can see what is required for some of my custom made ships in order to build them. In a recent game I researched things for the Sniper:

Tiny Hull
Railgun MKIII (Mass Drivers)
Sensors (not sure which kind)
Basic Support

But I don't know what kind of engines it needs, or if I need other things. It would be helpful for the techs to say what ships they were used in or at least have something in game that told you the technolgies needed for ships.

Okay, just ran with cheats enabled, and used ctrl-shift-R to unlock the tech tree. All of the core ships for all 5 types of ships do show up in the game, so my download/install grabbed them all. I'm gonna have to run through again and see why the core ships didn't show up with the proper techs researched. I'm thinking there is an unlisted prerequisite tech like advanced hulls, miniaturization or something.

OK, so other than the GalCivPedia (FANTASTIC piece of work BTW), where does one find exactly what techs are required for each ship ??

I tried this and the core ships did show up. However, without this the Sniper ship does not show up when I have:

Tiny Hull
Railgun MKIII
Sensors
Basic Support

I only have been able to build the Defender and Star Fury, even though I should also be able to build the Missle Boat, Cruiser, etc.

Any word on

There is a great post called "Fun with data tables." It has some great resources and also the required techs for all of the core ships.

You can directly access the core ship prerequisite techs at this link.

I'm going to try to figure out what is causing this problem tonight if I can. Too busy playing last night

I saw those resources earlier and that is how I realized that I had the parts necessary for the core ship designs. Which is why I was wondering why ships were not showing up when I had the necessary techs.
