I tried going to the shipyard, nothing there thats any larger. The other empires didnt build any larger ships either, just fighters, heavy fighters, etc. HELP PLEASE! I am playing the game version bought at StarDock and downloaded, CD is being shipped.
I forgot to mention, you need to be using the cheat flag for CTRL+SHIFT+R to work. It's a cheat that researches most of the tech tree.
You can enable cheats by creating a shortcut to GalCiv2.exe and use that to start the game.
1) Use Windows Explorer to find GalCiv2.exe.
2) Right click on GalCiv2.exe and choose create shortcut.
3) Right click on the shortcut and choose properties.
4) Click in the target field and hit end. Hit Space followed by the word CHEAT. No switches neccesary.
Tiny Hull
Railgun MKIII (Mass Drivers)
Sensors (not sure which kind)
Basic Support
But I don't know what kind of engines it needs, or if I need other things. It would be helpful for the techs to say what ships they were used in or at least have something in game that told you the technolgies needed for ships.

I tried this and the core ships did show up. However, without this the Sniper ship does not show up when I have:
Tiny Hull
Railgun MKIII
Sensors
Basic Support
I only have been able to build the Defender and Star Fury, even though I should also be able to build the Missle Boat, Cruiser, etc.
Any word on

You can directly access the core ship prerequisite techs at this link.
I'm going to try to figure out what is causing this problem tonight if I can. Too busy playing last night
