Core Ships

Hey I just bought the game and have only played the majority of one game, but I was wondering why the only core ships that appear for me are a the basic starting ones and defender and one attack ship fire something or other. I am playing as the humans and I've researched many many military techs. A bunch have said that it unlocks this ship but i need 1 or 2 other techs along with it, but they dont tell me which ones. I'm just trying to see some of the core ships available so anyone who could tell me what to research or what im doing wrong that would be great. Thanks

The latest patch has it show what techs are required (though it'd be nice if it showed only the techs you still need to research).
